COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abita Red Ale is a traditional red ale. It is brewed with British pale and crystal malts, Liberty hops and an ale yeast imported from Ireland. This ale has a rich ruby color, lacy collar, pronounced caramel flavor and is a tad "hoppier" than our other brews. Available March thru June.

Not bad, but it didn't appease me as much as I had hoped. Very clear amber/red color in the mug leaving generous lace. The body carried a medium sweet/malt flavor with a heavy hop finish. I'm not much of a hophead so it was a bit too much for my palate.

Aroma and flavor is caramel malts, mild fruit and a sweetish/slightly beery finish.

Draft at a restaurant while having a po-boy in New Orleans. Pours a slightly hazy reddish copper color with a large off white head. The aroma and flavor had pale malts, spicy hops, citrus, caramel and some muted fruity character. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. It was ok with the sandwich, but not something I would seek out.

The middle of the road flavor you’d expect from a red ale out of Abita. Bready, some grassy hops, and a mild caramel sweetness.

gentle pour, yet too much head from the 12oz serving for a 16oz pint glass A - slightly cloudy; orange (not red) with slight reddish tint. Head lasts considerably longer than average S - hoppy & spicy; vanilla?; sweet T - nicely balanced malts and hops; nicely balanced sweet and bitter, albeit a bit light; some complexity; fruity hops Very good to excellent selection for price point.

Into a pint glass. Lots of head, foamy. Light, clear copper colored body. It has a strong malty hay smell, some bread dough too. Bigger malt bill in the taste, milder bitterness. Lends a little sweetness at first and then dried out by the hops in the latter half. Medium body with low carbonation. Nothing fancy but good and easy drinking.

3 oz draft sampler pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of bread and malts. Taste is the malts.

On tap for growler fills at Half Time. Pours a clear amber with a thin white head. Sweet caramel on the nose, fruity and buttery. Sweet and grainy. Rather empty and watery. Long sweet malt and toast. Sweet and empty.

12oz bottle pours clear copper with light tan head. The meek aroma is sugary malts, maybe some 20L like crystal malts and little else. The taste is under whelming with floral hops, a touch of roasted malts and a faint mix of sweet malts and biscuit malts. This doesn’t come together for me as the various flavor notes seem to be at odds with one another.

Wittales (884) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Appearance was clear light blood orange amber with creamy off white lasting 2 finger head, lacing throughout. Aromas are citrusy lemon and lime slight sweet malts. Taste was tangy grapefruit, lemon, lime, ruhbard and slight sweet malt in a distant background. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, then zesty fruity average length dryish caulky finish. If had better body and finish...

Pours a clear orange color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma of caramel and bread. Flavor of caramel malts with some herbal hops providing some bitterness.
