The word "alt" means old in German and refers to the tradition of making beer before lagers became available. Alt beers are German brown ales that are modeled after the types of beers that are produced in Dusseldolf, Germany. These ales are fermented at lower teperatures and are aged longer than typical British or American ales. This results in a much cleaner and more balanced taste in the finished beer. Our Kaiser Alt is a stronger version of this style.

Our Alt beer is similar to the commercially produced alt beers that are made in Dusseldorf today, only stronger. It is made with German Weyermann malts and is hopped and dry hopped with German Perle and Spalt hops. This gives the beer a very malty character and a pleasant hop aroma and aftertaste. The result is an aromatic dark brown ale with a sweet malty taste.

Our Kaiser Alt beer is very versitile and compliments a number of dishes quite well. In Germany, it is traditionally served with pork dishes, but it also pairs well with almost any red meat. It would also be excellent with almost any barbequed dish.

Appearance: small head that laces nicely, deep dark amber color, looks really good held up to the light Aroma: malty, some fruit, but of hop grassiness, faint smell Taste: smooth, hoppy finish, hint of bitterness, some malt up front Palate: some c02 burn up front, leaves a very light hop bitterness in the aftertaste, some frothyness Overall: drinking this on tap at the abita brew pub in abita springs Louisiana about a mile from the brewery, pretty complex beer, it's good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at the Brandon Brass Tap poured a dark brown color with aromas of all malt and some floral notes. Flavors are the same, all malt, nothing reallt else there just malt. Ok overall but was expecting a little more flavor.

Clear brownish with a small beige head. Weak toasty aroma. Malty, decent but non-descript taste. Light-medium bodied. Really not special, but really not bad for a session beer, or an abita beer in general for that matter.

Pours a pleasant brown with a thin, dense head. Aroma is mostly sweet malt with some floral/fruity hop notes. The experience was ruined by a dirty sock taste that just grew stronger as the beer warmed.
