Working with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB), Abita Beer announced that it has established SOS A Charitable Fund that will assist with the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill.

The fund has pledged that 100% of all money raised will go to charity. In addition, the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board will play an important role in advising where the money can do the most good. An advisory committee is being established as the donation process and grant procedures are finalized.

The centerpiece of the fundraising effort is a new charitable beer created by Abita. The brew, called SOS A Charitable Pilsner, will generate 75 for every bottle sold. This Abita Beer is a message in a bottle...a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75 to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill. This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts. It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops. It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.

Excellent. Pours gold with a nice inch or so white head. Tastes of lemon, biscuit, and grass. Pretty smooth but with a slightly bitter dry finish...refreshing, way above average Pilsner! K-3.3 S-3.6

Pours a crisp light golden yellow color with a fizzy white head that lasted all of 20 seconds. Aromas of minor hops, grass, and grains with a touch of vegtables. Flavor is a nice crisp hoppy/grain taste with a nice clean finish.

650ml bottle to a 20cl peroni glass. Crystal clear golden pour, really nice looking white head. Beaut of a beer. Aroma is water, grain, and herbal hops. Wheat can be detected in the much sweeter than typical pils. It is a style that I despise but this one remains airy and light despite the heavy sweetness. Just make the same beer, lower the abv by 2% and put it in 6 packs even though this was only a 4$ bomber.

Appearance: deep gold, hint of haze, short creamy white head, minimal lace. Aroma: grainy, with a bit of biscuit, then light honey and some grassy, lemon, and herbal notes. Taste: as the aroma indicated. Finish: mostly clean and crisp, with a decent pils hop bite and maybe a hint of a wheaty twang. Notes: Liked it just fine. Went down nice and easy for a bigger lager. Palate wasnt too thick.

Rated on 02-19-2013 at Abita Brew Pub. The appearance of this draft beer is a small smooth white head, slightly hazy golden body, very little carbonation observed, and a good amount of lacing adorns my glass. The aroma is wheat, malt, light bitter hops, and semi-sweet. The flavor is wheat, light bitter hops, malt, grainy, and the ABV does make an appearance. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer is quaffable with a nice flavor. It is worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

Appearance started out with a sudsy off-white head with almost no lace and a clear amber color later then the head turns to a kind of scum. Aroma is nice with malt wet grain and a little hops. Flavor is malt fruit floral perfume carbonic tang and a little hop. Body is good. Not my favorite pils. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"An ok pilsner with grassy hops and hay, but like G said, lacking the pleasant crispness and a little sweet leaning. For $4.50, its about twice the price per ounce id want to pay for something like this, and wouldnt again."
