Very smooth and thick. Almost liike drinking whole milk. Eyedrinkale (3235) - Astoria, New York, USA - APR 15, 2004
Head doesn't last long.
Simple flavor of toffee with slight aftertaste. Much like a "nut brown" in many ways, but without the nuts.
Poop brown is the best I can describe the color. My mom drove a Ford Pinto this same color. I like my beer with a little more red coloration.
For being one of the cheapest beers at my local liquor store it's suprisingly good. That doesn't mean I'l buy it again though. Not bitter enough for my pallet (I like balance).
UPDATED: SEP 21, 2004 How is this a Brown Ale? Looks like a Schwarzbier with it's black color and thin body. There is nothing to this stuff. Foams in your mouth like a rabid dog. Total Draino. sloth (2945) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - APR 11, 2004
Small light brown head, minimal retention. Great looking clear chestnut color. Slightly sour, malty nose. Medium/light body, sorta watery. Malty, chocolatey notes. No hop flavors to speak of. Finish is fairly dry. worldleadr (56) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - APR 11, 2004
This is bizarre. It's purplish, and smells and tastes like grape juice beer. Surprisingly alcoholic, and surprisingly good. But the novelty wore off after a pitcher or two. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - APR 7, 2004
On tap - Waterfront Manhatten. Excellent blackish colour with good head. Aroma of coffee. A bit thin in the mouth but the aftertaste is a good stouty coffee taste. Very drinkable.

My favorite Abita beer so far. Dark amber colored, with a good head. Smells of toffee, chocolate, and coffee. Finishes strong, malty, sweet, with slight soy sauce, almonds, and chocolate at the finish. Nice complexity. Drinker101 (54) - East Ridge, Tennessee, USA - MAR 15, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2004 This beer was appealing to me to begin with cause it is Emeril's beer of choice. Very nice aroma. Dark look. Nice taste. Distinct nutty, sweet flavor. Would recommend this beer to anyone who likes sweet flavored beers! willblake (2664) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAR 10, 2004
Bottle, Emeril's Tchoup Chop, 3/04. Emeril always talks about this stuff, so I thought I'd try it whilst dining under his roof. Hard to tell color in the dimly lit restuarant, but it appears to be a mahoganey brown with ruby highlights. Huge tan head, ridiculous lacing. Roasted nuts and lighter malts in nose. Sweet, but I don't smell hops. Sweet tasting, especially in the front, reminds me of a stout at first, but it stays sweet and finishes kind of fruity, but bitter like green apple skin. Toffee lingers on the finish. BTW-sake drinkers in the Orlando area might want to check out the Tchoup Chop, they seem to have a nice selection. tooluther (10) - Clemson, South Carolina, USA - MAR 4, 2004
Very Dark for an Ale, looked and smells like a porter with a strong molasses sent. Chocolate nutty was pleasant without being overpowering supermikeyb (43) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - FEB 29, 2004
Deep, dark brown in color. Rich malt in the nose with a distinct hop bitterness. Roastly malts here, dry finish...well made.
