A brown ale with a thin moka head. In aroma, nice caramel malt with plums. In mouth, a boring chalky ale with light brunes, rather pedestrian. On tap at VT Brewers Fest, July 17 2010. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - MAY 4, 2002
Dark brown beer with decent mocha head. Caramel aroma. Malty flavor, minimal hops. A trifle watery, but not bad.

It is a sweet, dark colored English brown ale that just doesn’t do much for me. BeerandBlues2 (13821) - Escondido, California, USA - DEC 26, 2003
Brown with a small tan head. Fruity and hoppy aroma that includes some pine and smoke notes. Bitter and a little sour to the taste. A little sweet but almost like a tart, dark chocolate. Creamy on the palate. Dogbrick (13777) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 24, 2003
This was an interesting beer that pretty much defied description to me. At different points in my glass I would have guessed it was a Brown Ale, a Dunkel, or an Altbier. Points for being different. Pours a dark brown but clear, with a medium thick light beige head. Quick lacing. Aroma of malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with flavors of coffee, nuts and malt, with a sweet malty aftertaste. A good session beer, and the best from Abita I have tried. mR_fr0g (13511) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2014
Bottle at home shared with Sarah picked up at GBBF for a US state tick. Aroma is nutty caramel with fermenting grass notes. Later there a quite a heavy soapy element to the nose. Nice reddy chestnut brown colour with a thin but persistent light tan head. Flavour is dark fruits, raisin and figs with burnt unrefined sugars, dry with tangy fruits in the finish. Maybe a little apple note. Palate is medium-sweet, moderate to high carbonation. lightish body. Burnt sugar and tangy fruits linger in the finish.
