American Wild Ale is the brewery’s sour beer aged for over a year in a used French oak wine barrel. For the last three and ½ months of the barrel aging process, 85 pounds of fresh-pressed whole merlot grapes were added to the barrel providing an amazing dark amber color and producing a fruity but balanced sour beer. 7% ABV.

Light amber pour at GABF. Funky sourness, Lacto, yogurt, cheese, light grape notes. Fluffy on the tongue. Damn good.

GABF 2013. Pours a lightly cloudy yellow orange appearance with a white head. Huge fucken cheesy, vanilla, very funky, oak aroma with a touch of pear and white grape. Lightly tart, cobweb, tangy lemon lactic, cheesy, pineapple flavor with just a bit of lasting acidity. One of my favorites of GABF and damn near as good as Colorambic, which is quite similar in flavor and complexity. Chill brew.

On tap at GABF 2013, some tart notes, bit of burnt plastic in the aroma, the taste was alright.

Sample at the 2013 GABF. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Brett nose. Sour apple flavors. Some metallic notes. Crisp tart finish.

Pour on tap at Rackhouse Pub, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought nice notes of funk, spice, hints of biscuit, bread, vanilla, nice lactic and lemony notes in there, but the amount of basement/brett in there balances well. Taste is a mix of pretty tart fruits, lemon, going into sweet vanilla, earth, some biscuit, touch of yeast, nice funky basement and dusty notes, finishing tart, slightly funky. Nicely done.

Pour on tap at Rackhouse, clear red pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of pine, funk, pineapple, slight lactic and lemon notes, this one was a bit all over the place, slight spice and garlic as well. Taste was oniony and spicy, hints of pine, biscuit and lemon, lactic and funk came through, finishing fairly dry. Interesting, but a bit all over the place.

On tap at Rackhouse Pub. Pour is golden in appearance with no head but good lacing. Peaches and apricots, pear, green apples, lacto, sour grain, biscuit, and tannin in the aroma. Taste is sour peach juice, white grapes, light wood, green apples, light funk, and pears with a tart, crisp, dry finish. Mouthfeel is light with fizzy carbonation. Another nice sour from Troy and the boys over at AC Golden.
