Sample at Achelse Kluis, shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: dark brown beer, small stable beige head. NOSE: caramel, fruity, dried fruits, sweet, some coffee. TASTE: caramel, coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, nothing wrong with this beer!

The other refter beer from tap at the monastery, the follow-up to the original Achel 5. Burgundy-coloured beer with thinnish off-white head; creamy, malty and caramelly with dried fruit notes, gentle herbal hop tone in the finish and somewhat thin body. Genuine and interesting for the simple fact that it is a trappist ale, but not worth driving to the monastery for.

Draught @ Achelse Kluis. Clear autumnal red-brown color, medium sized off-white to beige head that leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, slightly metallic, nuts, a hint of caramel, a hint of dark fruits and it also reminds me of some sort of candy I used to get as a kid, but I have no idea what it was called. Average body, average to medium carbonation.

On tap at the monastery. Pours nice and brown (well, duh) with a decent head. Surprising sour flavour - it reminds me a bit of an Oud Bruin. Would be an excellent session beer; a shame it cant be had on bottles.

Tap in de Achelse Kluis. Helder colakleurig, bijna witte kraag. Vrij waterig bier, vleugje caramel mout en een klein bittertje. Blond is beter.
