UPDATED: AUG 16, 2008 (On tap) Deep orangey brown, filtered with a small, creamy head. Light caramel-like notes and a marked yet discreet hoppiness. Again a very quaffable and quenching light trappist. 110505 Koelschtrinker (20772) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - DEC 18, 2011
Dunkler, herb-bitterer Antrunk, eher wenig aromatisch. Das Malz ist geringfügig röstig, ebenso die Hefigkeit. Wässrig-bitterer Abgang mit wenig Malzeinfluss. 10/7/9/7//7

On tap at the brewery cafe, as 5 Bruin. It poured a hazy, dark amber body under a small, off-white to beige head leaving lacings. The aroma was initially buttery and toffee-ish, but after finishing the blond first, it smoothened and presented roasted malts and dried fruits. Also some hops. The flavor was sweet, slightly buttery, and with caramel, dried fruits and hints of roasted malts. Full-bodied, and with caramel sweetness and some bitterness in the finish. A quite nice beer that is too buttery, even though it smoothens after a while. As I drank the beer though, I sort of grew fond of the level of butteryness, and it drank well with the cake I had to it. Still prefer the blond though. 091008

Draught @ Achelse Kluis. Clear autumnal red-brown color, medium sized off-white to beige head that leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, slightly metallic, nuts, a hint of caramel, a hint of dark fruits and it also reminds me of some sort of candy I used to get as a kid, but I have no idea what it was called. Average body, average to medium carbonation. MiP (15943) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - OCT 30, 2008
Draught at the monastery’s cafeteria. Hazy dark brown colour. Very small light brown head. OK roasted flavour, quite mild. Slightly citric finish, probably from the grain. bierkoning (13451) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - JUL 28, 2011
Tap @ brewery. Dark brown color, cloudy. Only hints of bread and milk chocolate in the aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Watery mouthfeel. Soft roast flavor with raisinny notes. Slightly bready. Soft raisin and malt finish. Distant cellar flavor. Take your time drinking this beer, it is served way too cold. thewolf (12706) - Kolding, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2011
Tap @ Achelse Kluis, Belgium.
Pours ruby red brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has mild maltiness, some caramel, raisins, molasses and a hint of chocolate. Medium carbonation, sadly a bit thin. The flavour is not excactly weak, more subdued. Light sweet, some malts and raisins. Nice aroma, rather weak flavour.
