COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pale, strong, fruity, hoppy Trappist ale from one of Belgiums six official abbey breweries. Achel 8 is hard to find even in Belgium; in the U.S. its up there with the rarest of beers. This blond, flavorful beer is a surprisingly refreshing brew at 8% alcohol by volume. It is lightly filtered, but still wholesomely hazy with yeast remaining and refermenting in the bottle.

Gold pour big head. Aroma is vegetal with farm grains & banana yeast. Tastes is very sweet with yeast present but not as overpowering as in other belgians. Malty and yeast flavors walk hand in hand here. I can make out barley overtures with toffee roastiness and general plantiness. Really nice subtle stuff going on here. I like the plantiness a lot.

From a bottle, three months past the expiration date. Pours amber with a large foamy head that soon fades. Mild fruity aroma with evident pear, apple brandy. Taste is lightly bitter with a tart, fruity undertone, and just a touch of bubblegum sweetness. Finishes dry, mildly bitter, and with a light warmth. Body is medium with a prickly carbonation. A very agreeable brew.

A: Dark gold with a big off-white head N: Sweetness, pineapple, barley T: Full of depth and bitterness to balance the sweetness. This gives way to a long, lingering spice finish. P: Full O: Excellent Belgian strong ale

Thuis geproefd op 4-01-2014. Blonde kleur, heel bittere smaak die gelukkig niet al te lang blijft hangen in de nasmaak, toch een goed biertje.

330 ml bottle. Cloudy light gold color. Large frothy whitish head is disturbing! sweet candy corn malt aroma. Ascerbic, tart fruity malt flavor. Pickles are an alien lifeforme. Seriously, this is a yeasty, fruity, bready malt example of Begian pulchitrude. Sandy, crusty, grassy notes. A tragic classic!
