UPDATED: MAY 14, 2015 The forerunner of the still hard-to-get Achel Extra Blond, basically a weaker version of only 8.5% ABV. Made as a one-off for the birthday of the abbott of Achelse Kluis in 2004; I drove to the monastery especially for this. Came in a 75 cl bottle with a sobre hangtag. Egg-white, irregular, sticky and thickly lacing head, colour a warm peach blonde, misty with beautiful fizz throughout. Rich aroma, in which I will never forget the fruitiness: it was like sticking your nose in a basket of exotic fruits. Hints of fresh orange juice, mango, papaja, banana, mint, candi sugar, baker’s yeast, Moscatel wine, coriander, aniseed, apple, peach, grass. Utterly fruity onset, refreshing, supple, full bready maltiness, spicy yeast, sugary sweetness sticking a bit but nevertheless balanced with a leafy hop bitterness. Sweeter than Achel 8 Blond, but a lot more ’festive’ and luxurious too. Curious to find out how it relates to its successor Achel 9.5 Extra Blond. oh6gdx (26488) - Vasa, FINLAND - JUL 11, 2011

BBE: 2006. Pours a muddy pale orange with a lot of small particles in the liquid. A great, creamy white head. Stunning lacing. Aroma is lightly spicy, dougy and honey. Quite lively mouthfeel and really full creaminess. Flavour is lightly oxidized, sweet, vinious, nice and round with wheat of yeasty fruitiness dominating.

75 cL bottle, huge thanks to Bierkönig. 2004 bottle, BBD: 12/2007, tasted 01/2008. Pours hazy orange with a diminishing white head. Light honey, yeasty spiced and mild caramel malty aroma. Mellow yeasty, smooth caramel and light fruity flavour. Strong blond, almost triple like (no wonder it is added on RB as a Tripel...despite the name). Slight oxidation.
