An epic brew from Achilles, a red-brown rich and malty masterpiece with just a dash of hoppy bitterness for balance.

PorterPounder (8267) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 8, 2008
Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 750 ml bottle. Pours a slightlly hazy medium orange with a sticky, puffy white head. Sweet aroma with some hints of white grapes, citrus, and a touch of alcohol. Hearty flavor with some nutty accents, a touch of cherries, some root beer, raisins, dates, caramel l and toffee. Mouthfeel is pleasant, good creaminess. Solid Belgian.

bhensonb (15743) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 26, 2008
Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Pours a clear copper color with a good yellow/white head. Sweet aromas of candied lighter stone fruits. Medium body with coarse carbonation. The flavor is not all that sweet, seems slightly bitter, and lightly spicy. A very tasty ale.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2009 33cl, exclusive brew, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex, balanced, cloudy, good head, the best of the Serafijn-range, but not a topper

Appearance: Pours a clear, orangey body with a medium-sized, dense, off-white head. Smell: A touch of lemon, more than a touch of orange. Also notes of orange blossom honey, light caramel, and yeast (though only everso slightly). Taste: Light caramel and honeyed maltiness with a medium sweetness. Small pinch of lemon zest. A full helping of orange oil. Slight yeast character. Restrained bitterness. A bit peppery near the end. Lingering orangey taste on the drying finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Well carbonated. Drinkability: Oh, it’s not so bad, really, though it could stand to use a greater depth of malt character.

Shag (3045) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - MAY 31, 2008
An orange appearance with a carbonated white head. The aroma reminds me of fruit cake with some spices, dark fruit, and orange peel. The flavor contains some peaches, apricot, oranges, and spices. The mouthfeel is a bit sugary and carbonated. Overall I really enjoyed this beer.

decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - MAY 25, 2008
An almost amberish pour. A dry almost peach smell. Spicy flavor that has a hint of clove flavor as well. Noth thin but not full. Decent carbonation. Nice drinker but not really special, but not bad.

CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Pours a transparent copper orange with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty Belgian caramely malt with a touch of light fruity esters. Body starts very effervescent and semi-sweet with some caramely notes before a drier, more bitter finish. Needs more body and complexity.

shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Pours a light copper color with a white head. Aroma is wheaty, clove, grain, astringent, yeasty, and some honey. Flavor is clove, wheat, yeasty, clove, honey, and a bitter peppery finish.
