Bottled. Very deep brown colour, close to black, with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is malts, roasted notes, raisins, coffee and some mild notes of liquorice. Flavour is strong on the malty side and also has roasted notes and quite a bunch of bready and ryebready notes in it. As it warms up coffee, liquorice, some raisins, dark fruits as well as some mild sappy notes come through. Very wellbalanced and bigtime coffeeish aftertaste. cgarvieuk (26029) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 20, 2008

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer, tiny suddy tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Slightly bitter dark malt with mild roast. Trace of coffee. Bubblegum sweetness in the undertone! Finishes dry with some orangey hop coming through and quite a bit of hop bitterness. Bitter aftertaste. A robust stout that I enjoyed but it has a few sharp edges.
