COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aromas of citrus and melon with hints of white pepper tantalize the nose of this delectable IPA. “Willow Wolves” is delicately balanced with hints of caramel and slight bitterness of grapefruit rind and pine on the finish.

Short: A drinkable but specialty malt driven, tannic IPA

Origin: Tap at Encinitas Ale House Size: 4oz Glass: Mini flute Price: $2 Date: 1/18/14
Long: Red amber pour, great lace. Nose is mild citrus. Juicy up front in taste finishing harshly- tannic, overly bitter and biting. Dry, sharp palate, dry, papery.
Flaws: Tannic, harsh bitterness, sticky specialty malt unnecessary, and for some reason I read "Willow Wolves IPA" as a White IPA so was surprised to see a specialty malt amber ale.
Remedy: Drop specialty malt, less boil time with hops, check mash temperature and Ph to reduce tannin extraction. Consider making this a White IPA since the name fits.

Taster, taproom. Pours more amber than gold. Quite a bit of funk rather than citrus on both aroma and taste. Very dry, bit of pepper there too. Good.

Hazy dark amber gold with a thick frothy off-white head that left rings of lace. Light pepper and citrus aromas with dankness, resin and bready notes. Sharp bitterness pokes through a strong caramel base with hints of booziness. Medium body and carbonation, prickly mouthfeel and a dry finish. Reminds me of a light Arrogant Bastard.

Sampled from the tap at the taproom. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has a combination of grains and grass with a touch of pine and a decent amount green pepper underlying. Flavor combines grass and green pepper that is backed by some bread notes.

Bottle. Amber color. Aroma of pine, citrus, caramel and biscuit. Clean and robust flavor. Earthy, grapefruit, and a bit bready.

Pours a hazy golden orange on tap with fluffy off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big resinous piney and pithy grapefruit hop notes with a hint of bready pale malt. Taste falls a little short of the nose, but not bad overall. Mild bitterness, good balance on the mouth, decent, but lots of better ones around town.

Draught at Watering Hole. Rich fruitiness on the nose, orange, peach, grape, kind of dies on the palate though, a bit too light-bodied, mild bitter finish. Meh a bit too light overall despite a promising nose...

joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 11, 2015
On draft at Tap 25. It pours a rich orange/gold color with an off white head. The aroma has caramel, berries, toast and citrusy orange. The flavor has more orange, a little pine with a lightly caramel backbone. More of a toasted caramel actually. Pine and orange in the finish. Not bad.

Marheb (6009) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 13, 2015
(En fût au Urge Gastropub): Un liquide qui semble inerte respire des arôme ferreuse et boisée avec soubresauts de fruits jaunes fermentés. En bouche c’est mort, complètement, avec les mêmes attraits qu’au nez. Un peu triste.

blipp (9590) - La Mesa, California, USA - OCT 7, 2015
Draft. Pours orange with a white head. Fruity citric hops, almost pithy, with moderate bitterness, a decent dose of sweet malts, and some lingering pithy citric notes. Decent.
