Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

I’d call it green. A dubbel that has not fully fermented. Ugly bubbly head, no aroma complexity, some malt flavors... A poor representative of a great style.

330 mL bottle. Hazy brown. Not much head. Probably four years old, but holding up very well. A little sweet, a little herbal. Low carbonation. No off flavours. Good atuff.

Classic dubbel. Brown sugar and slight dark fruit. Easy sipping and more sessionable than most

33cl bottle from Speciaalbier, Leiden. Thick creamy off white head. Clear deep amber pour. Some candy sweetness. Quite decent

PsychoGunnar (201) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 11, 2014
The glass says "dubbel-tripel", and it is dark and powerful stuff. The foam is airy and dirty yellow. Smells sweetly of schwarzbier-like malts, which also have a strong presence in the taste. Furthermore there is a nice belgian fizziness and a raspberry-like fruitiness. A hint of soy appears further out in the taste, which is nice.

0,33L bottle. Pours brown with light tan head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, dark fruits, plums, yeast. Flavor is sweet, caramel, dark fruits, plums, burnt sugar, malt, caramel, and spices. Finish has some bitterness and hints of alcohol. Overall: nice brew.

Marduk (7694) - Reval, ESTONIA - SEP 12, 2014
330ml bottle. Bit hazy chestnut color. Small size, yellow head, disappears. Sweet, caramel, slightly dusty notes in aroma. Caramel, prunes, slightly yeasty, dark chocolate in taste. High carbonation. Long lasting dark chocolate in aftertaste. Quite decent.

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place. Thanks Stas and Vova. Headless murky brown. Sweet, medicinal, syrupy aroma, sweet, a little fermented cherry and floral taste. Medium body, sweetish finish, low carbonation.
