Medium tan colored head. The body (as the name suggest) is completely black and delightfully sinister looking
Heavy roast notes and cocoa- not a really powerful nose, but makes me want to take my first sip even more to find out what is underneath
Very malty, coffee grounds, slightly bitter and perhaps some traditional Belgian Character to it. All of this is accompanied by a very long, persistent and extremely good finish. Very light mouthfeel and very drinkable.

750ml bottle c/o Elise shared at GTMW ticket line 2014. Unfiltered black-brown body. Foamy beige head. Medium bodied, roastier than most Belgians. Nice fluffy carbonation. Sort of like a Dunkel, belgified. Sweet and easy, rich, nice depth. Classic, well done. docsteigs (542) - Texas, USA - JUN 15, 2014
Surprised by the ratings below I thought this was a very solid beer. Pours very black with a nice lacy head. Aroma is somewhat subdued not as roasts as I would expect. Taste is very well-balanced rich toasty coffee chocolate. Very complex for a session strength beer. Finishes refreshing.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark malt with a touch of cocoa nib type chocolate. Med body or so. Flavor is earthy, dark malt and not much coffee - but a little bakers chocolate seems present. Earthy, unsweet chocolate. Not really very bitter, except for the earthiness, and I’m not getting much in the way of fruity ester. Maybe a little yeast/spice. Yeah, sort of like I’d imagine a Schwarzbier made with Belgian yeast. Don’t know why it has such a low rating, except perhaps it is very different. I’m a drinkin it all! dyetube (1378) - Hurst, Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2013

Surprisly underrated . Black color , medium beige head . Aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Balanced taste of roasted malt , caramel and earthy hops. Decent ale. Fatehunter (2567) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - SEP 1, 2015
Pours a half finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is lots of licorice, anise, some roasted malt and chocolate in the background.
The taste has a nice roasty character, a little bitter dark chocolate.
The texture is crisp and fizzy.
Enjoyable. nealblind (1867) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - APR 11, 2016
