1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle:   Either this is infected, or overcarbonated as the bubbles in the glass are insane, the head is billowing over the glass, and the aroma is of burnt bike tire air.   Acrid roastiness on the tongue, bike tire air too.   Reminds me of really bad Sake yeast.   I don’t think I can do this one... after a few sips, either its a really piss poor example of an Alt (one that is supposed to be a Black Alt?), or its infected.   I struggle to think that the acrid bike tire air aroma and flavor was intended.   Due for a re-rate to confirm this is not what was intended.
16 ounce sample on tap at a place in IAH called Republic. Aroma smells like tart cherries, basement, and some other strange esters. Somewhat transparent mahogany body present with a small, fleeting off white head. Starts with a tart, weird flavoring. Becomes metallic and astringent in the middle. Mild roastiness comes in late with a little chocolate. The esters make an appearance late. This is just a mess of a beer. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt about possible dirty lines, etc., but it appears as though my tastes are not off. Palidor19 (3189) - Brandon, Florida, USA - MAR 13, 2017
This beer reminds of a cola soft drink in terms of taste, texture and carbonated fizz. Low on malt and hops. Dark but clean tasting

Clear dark amber brown with a light tan rocky head that’s quite large in size. Rustic earthy nose of roasted black malt, old gymnasium, stale coffee and a earthy bitterness. Smooth but roasty and rustic flavor with dark semistale coffee grounds, Belgian esters, black malt acridity, and bitter dark cocoa. Just kinda okay. Gets a little tastier as it warms. solidfunk (9025) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - DEC 10, 2016
A hot mess like spilled poutine. Dark brown pour with big mocha head and lacing. Some caramel and unfermented sugar. Sone booze. Tangy finish with hint of florals. Tap at airport. OldMrCrow (2443) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 20, 2016

Gotta say I really don’t get the hate for this one. Dark pour, mild smoke to make things interesting atop the mellow dark-roast character. Almost like a gentle smoked beer; I quite like it. Chocolate and sweetness is fairly background, and it’s low abv contributes to an easy drinkability.
Reddish brown pour lofty head. Aroma slight metallic, choco, coffee. tastes raisins chocolate mild belgo yeast. plesant drawn out char. a non sour belgian porter.

Pours a dark cola color with a black coffee Aroma. Taste is clean, carbornated, with a cocoa flavor. A light coffee note with a bubbly aftertaste. Fatehunter (2568) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - SEP 1, 2015
Pours a half finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is lots of licorice, anise, some roasted malt and chocolate in the background.
The taste has a nice roasty character, a little bitter dark chocolate.
The texture is crisp and fizzy.
Enjoyable. glennmastrange (2884) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 17, 2015
Bottle. Dark roasted and bready malts, light herbal and earthy hops and yeast. Head is average size, light beige, with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts and finishes lightly acidic with a touch of bitter in the finish. Palate is medium, slick with a lively carbonation. An easy drinking beer, just nothing outstanding in this Belgian Ale. Draft at the growler NYC . Pours a deep blackish purple color with no head. Malty sweet flavor with kind of artificial taste. Ok
