Ingredients: Belgian yeast strain; pilsner malted barley and a mixture of Biscuit, Aromatic, Munich and Honey malts. Fuggles and Styrian Goldings. A full-bodied pale gold beer, fruity and spicy aroma and palate and a low bitterness. Typical examples: Leffe Blonde and Affligem Blond. The diversity of beer is really appreciated in Belgium. Here tradition and innovation go hand in hand and flavour is king. The abbey ales of Belgium were my first real appreciation that beer could be so different from the norm. Although most abbey ales have lost their monastic links, for beer lovers Belgium is still an enlightening experience.

Cask conditioned handpump Masque Haunt London 13/05/13. A brown beer with an off-white head. Sweet yeasty notes with candy sugar effects. Fruity notes in the mouth. Pleasant but something doesnt sit right. Not sure its at its freshest either.

Beese (2595) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 25, 2014
Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 9 April 2013. Poured a slightly hazy dark orange colour with a tight white head. Fruity aroma, some pastry, brown sugar and very light Belgian yeast esters. Flavours were a sort of cross between a Belgian amber and an ESB; malt heavy, some red current, butterscotch. Finish was dry grain, burnt sugar and some residual Belgian-esque notes. Not bad, but a bit far of the intended mark.

Cask Pint at Wibbas Down (JDW), Wimbledon, London in Apr 2013 during Spoons Festival - Amber Gold in colour. Fruity; apples, pears. Spicy. Hoppy; some hop bitterness. Malty; bready malts, toffee. Some fruity sweetness balanced by slight spicy hop bitterness. Dry finish. OK. Drinkable.

JDW, Rochester. Quite light bodied, fairly largerish, dry, with yeasty perfume notes. Rather like a Saison. Some medicianl notes suggestive of high temperature fermentation. The dryness suggesting a longish period of cool maturation. Fruity and attractive, though a little rough and dirty. OK.

Tasted 18/4/2013 draught "The Bell", Amesbury, Wiltshire. Poured a clear honey golden colour with a thin line of white bubbles for a head. No lacing. Aroma of sour malt. Taste starts sweetish but turns to sour malts; no real bitterness. Light body. Smooth but sour finish. Not for me.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; I want to make a beer that pisses people off like morph in Tony Hart an interpretation of whats real but is existential, who thinks Jessica Ennis is hot I do.

1/2 at the Tilley Stone Gateshead. Bright gold with a thin white head. Spicy cough-drop aroma. First impression was "Leffes tribute", but there was a pleasant creaminess to the texture, and along with the Belgian sharp fruity spiciness, there was a long English bitter finish. If this is meant to be a hybrid, it works for me.

The Felix Holt, Nuneaton, 09/04/13. Brilliant slim-lidded gold. Juicy tangerine peel, coriandered aroma. Authentic spiced biscuit, perfumed Belgian flavour. Lengthy biscuit afters. Soft mouthfeel. Plenty finishable. Better than some Belgian cask attempts in previous Spoons festivals. Good.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in April 2013. Cask, handpump dispence. Clear pale amber in colour with a clean white thin head. Pleasant fruity aroma of spiced apple crumble, long in the nose. Thin but resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt base gives a rich Belgian Abbey style with apple and spicy cinnamon notes around a sweet golden syrup and candied fruit. Peppery note to the bitter hop resins in the brief aftertaste. Finish is smooth and malty with golden syrup and boozy pale rum notes evident. An excellent session ale this and well recommended.

Cask at the George, Staines, 09/04/13. Clear copper amber with a thin off white head. Nose is toffee, sugars, Belgian yeast strains, dark stoned fruits (not high on Mary Jane !). Taste comprises dark fruits, butterscotch Angel Delight, brown sugars, toffee, brown bread, raisens. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, dryish finish. Ok but simply whelming !
