COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered
Broadside was launched as a 6.3% bottled beer in 1972 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from the brewery.
Ingredients: Pale, Black, and Chocolate malts; First Gold hops
Broadside is a dark ruby red beer rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit. The fullness of the beer makes it a good accompaniment for hearty food.

Mahogany. Malt, caramel, dried fruit, and to a lesser degree, spice and chocolate. Sweetish taste and a dry finish with solid bitterness. Full body. Overall, a very good strong ale. Tasty and well-balanced.

12/10/16 bottle at home. Serious ruby beer. Alcohol almost takes over, but it just gets away with it. Malt and hops just shining through. Probably needs some man food to go with this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Almost quady dried fruit nose, lovely malt base, caramel, some toast, some herbal hops, light spiciness. Moderate sweetness with light bitterness. Quite nice

Pours a brown to ruby-red colour with a pale tan coloured head. The aroma is of malt and ethanol. The taste is toffee, malt and a hint of roasted malt that is initially moderately bitter on the palate with some residual sweetness. Overall not a bad beer.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2016 500ml bottle, chilled and poured at home. Very strong alcohol taste which over powers the palate and masks complexity. It went down the kitchen sink. Very disappointing given the reviews.

Aus der Flasche getrunken (Händlerlieferung). Rotbraun im Glas mit mächtiger Schaumkrone. Sehr dominanter Malzkörper (leider!).

Night_Cap (119) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - AUG 7, 2016
Bottle 500ml. Served at room temperature. Pours a burnt ruby brown. Head is good sized, lightly tanned and lasts very well in the glass. Aroma is of (earthy) English hops, caramel, brown rolls, blackberries, oranges, light notes of milk chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavour is a medium earthy hop bitterness with lightly toasted malts, dry biscuit, caramel, nuts, blackberries, brown bread crusts and a dry earthy finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a long dry finish.
