Described (as far as I recall) by top British TV chef Rick Stein as "Britain’s Best Beer". However I found it to have marmite like qualities - it takes a bit of getting used to, and you’ll either like it or hate it.
I remember it being a bit a bit on the thick & sickly side.

Bottle, Tesco online. Lovely reddish broan colour, bright, tight slightly creamy coloured foam. Fruity aroma. Sweet malty body, fruit cake, hint toffee, crusty bread. Medium earthy spicy hop. Satisfying dryness in the finish. Good strong ale this. BeardedAvenger (1030) - Addlestone, Surrey, ENGLAND - SEP 20, 2017
Bottle from Asda, Sheerwater. Rich spiced fruit and malt aroma. Dark ruby brown. The off-white head starts of with a healthy froth but then recedes. The taste feflects the aroma. Malts and spiced berries. Gains bitterness with an underlying plummy sweetness. Medium bodied. Verging on sticky. Fizzy carbonation. Long finish. Decent enough but a tad too sweet for me. swapp (368) - Kaunas, LITHUANIA - SEP 17, 2017

a demanding yet rewarding ale that is easily one of my british favourites. much stronger and (IMO) tastier than the casked variety, broadside demands all of your attention and rewards you in spades if you give it. despite the darkness, and the density of the taste, it is quite fruity. treat it with respect!
