COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered
Broadside was launched as a 6.3% bottled beer in 1972 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from the brewery.
Ingredients: Pale, Black, and Chocolate malts; First Gold hops
Broadside is a dark ruby red beer rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit. The fullness of the beer makes it a good accompaniment for hearty food.

Slightly hazy, copper pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma has lots of toffee, some apple skins, caramel, toast, hay and crusty white bread. Flavor is sweet toffee, toast, planty hops, sweet grassy hay, burnt sugar, sweet roasted nuts, black tea and some citrus and earthy notes to the finish. Light to medium body, chewy entry, dry finish and light, but sharp carbonation. Not bad, but lacking in depth and intensity compared to the 4.1% bitter I just drank from the same brewer.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2018 Bottle at home while watching World's Strongest Man. A good head to the beer and a lovely dark colour. The flavour was all malt and caramel and a big hit of alcohol. This is a classic winter beer and was very good.

En smag af karamel, og en blomsterhumlet eftersmag. Helt fin brug af humle til eftersmagen.

500ml bottle [from a trade with Grumbo - thanks a lot Graham!]. Clear, chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white to beige head. Mellow malty and fruity hoppy aroma, notes of cherry and red berries, a touch of plum, malty background with a touch of toffee. Taste is slightly sweet malty, minimally earthy, nutty, a touch of toffee, caramel, fruity hoppy hints of cherry and red berries, some plum. Very clean and balanced.

Bottle, Tesco online. Lovely reddish broan colour, bright, tight slightly creamy coloured foam. Fruity aroma. Sweet malty body, fruit cake, hint toffee, crusty bread. Medium earthy spicy hop. Satisfying dryness in the finish. Good strong ale this.

Bottle from Asda, Sheerwater. Rich spiced fruit and malt aroma. Dark ruby brown. The off-white head starts of with a healthy froth but then recedes. The taste feflects the aroma. Malts and spiced berries. Gains bitterness with an underlying plummy sweetness. Medium bodied. Verging on sticky. Fizzy carbonation. Long finish. Decent enough but a tad too sweet for me.
