COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adnams Broadside commemorates the fierce battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, just across the green from our brewery. The fullness of the beer makes it a good accompaniment for stews and steak or kidney and ale pies. All sausage dishes complement Broadside well. A mature cheese ploughmans or cheeseboard of hard English cheeses are a perfect match for bottled Broadside. (Contains barley). Pasteurised Bottle.

Pours a hazy, copper color. Decent tan head. Malty nose. Woody and very complex flavor. Buttery yeast notes are there, like in a Yorkie beer. Starts a bit sweet, but finishes dryer. The bitterness asserts itself at the end. It feels like a bigger beer than it is, which is great, since many porters and stouts are somewhat thin... this ones thick and yummy. Nice brew.

From pint bottle. Pours very dark with a hint of brown color in the light. Small head with fair retention only. Aroma is of wonderful rich maltiness almost reminiscent of a Belgian. Taste is of a rich maltiness but dialed back to drinkable and almost sessionable. Little booze and gas in the finish

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2016 Pours mahogany with off white head. Aroma is of caramel, vanilla and roast. Taste is burnt caramel, licorice, fig, smooth toasty malt. Aftertaste is roast and alcohol. I was Surprised by this beer after only rediscovering it recently, all in all pretty decent beer, definitely helped along by its 6.3%abv. As with most bottled, filtered force carbonated beers its a little thin, but acceptable

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Love their Ghost ship so thought I would give this a go. Pours dark brown/mahogany with a small tan head. Nose is really malty, sweet plum, fig and roasted malt. Slightly like a porter, bit of coffee and bitter chocolate. Mouth feel is thick and syrupy and a bit too sweet for me. Taste is toffee, caramel, prunes, licorice and some malty chocolate. Fairly bitter finish. Got to admit first mouthful was a bit unpleasant and it is rather strong, but it grew on me as I got further down the glass.......that might have just been the 6.3% abv though :-) in all seriousness though its a fairly decent brew.

"Half stout" or "light stout" for me. Pours dark ruby reddish with beige top. Minimal lasing. Aroma is overly dominated by chocolate kind of malt, some roasty robust bitter finish. Taste is sweet with light bitterness. Medium body, creamy/thicky texture, dry dark malts finish. Weird but I wasnt able to catch some fruity, caramel notes as usual in ESA. Properly brewed but it didnt stick with my palate, too monolit profile.

Mahogany. Malt, caramel, dried fruit, and to a lesser degree, spice and chocolate. Sweetish taste and a dry finish with solid bitterness. Full body. Overall, a very good strong ale. Tasty and well-balanced.

12/10/16 bottle at home. Serious ruby beer. Alcohol almost takes over, but it just gets away with it. Malt and hops just shining through. Probably needs some man food to go with this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
