A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool. Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif. Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Medium brown colour with reddish amber hue & good head. Toffee malt aroma. Citrus caramel malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A good bitter.

Light brown/dark orange with barely any head. Aroma is very english - grainy malts with a hint of caramel, gentle herbal and floral hops. Subtle, balanced, taste - more fruit and caramel in the taste but its still mostly just grainy. Fruity, mildly bitter finish. Really quite pleasant. Drinkable.

Pint bottle. Clear dark amber color with a thin tan top and great lacing. Caramel malts, toasted malts, floral finish. Medium carbonation, thin boring body. Not my cup of tea

sm89walt (2064) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 2, 2013
500ml bottle. A deep amber with a one finger, slowly fading off-white head. Dominant aromas of caramel and biscuit malt with some grassiness and English hop dryness. A bit heavy on the caramel malt flavour-wise too but otherwise quite bitter and resolutely quaffable. Medium length finish and carbonation on a light to medium body.

Bottle, rated from backlog. Deep yellow color with white head. Aroma malty with herbal hop notes. Flavor is watery and pretty bland, low bitterness.

Holmen1 (5840) - Stavanger, NORWAY - APR 21, 2013
Flaske kjøpt på Berentsens ølutsalg, delt med Ovesen: frisk og fruktig smak med litt karamellsødme i tillegg. En ypperlig forfriskning en søndag formiddag mens vi venter på at mesken skal bli ferdig.

r464 (2360) - Earth, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 9, 2013
Dark amber color with a thin whitish head. Dirty caramel malt, earthy, dry. Nuts, wood, resin, with a bitterness that is not all in the hops. Rather disappointing.
