A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool. Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif. Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.

50cl bottle. Good looking, clear brown with medium head. Unfortunately the bottle is oxidated and difficult to judge this beer. Ill buy it again in some time and rectify my score.

Low on aroma, but decent maltiness, caramel, kinda nut aspect. Light sweetness with light bitterness. Nothing fancy, but refreshing

Pours clear deep amber with a nice stable tan head, great lacing. Nose of malt, bread, some herbal and spicy notes, resin, hints of caramel. Well balanced light bitterness with a tad lighter sweetness and sourness. Low carbonation, very smooth palate, rather dry. Extremely drinkable!

Well balanced caramel and crackers with hops and appealing metallic aftertaste. Floral notes dominate. Would drink again.

Bottle at home. Subtle malty flavour. Subtle hop bite. Mildly bitter sweet. Light body. Okay beer.

Amber coloured with a small head. Its ever so slightly carbonated with a mild nutty taste. Its thirst quenching and hits the bitter "pork pie" spot. Works as a session drink and a good pub drink but is nothing special.

Served in a tulip from a 500ml bottle. Pours copper colour with a tan head. Aroma is malt, bread, caramel. Taste is a pleasant combination of malty and hoppy notes, smooth with a slight bitter aftertaste. Pleasant enough but nothing to write home about.

Nice clear orange golden color with a fine white head. Ok floral aroma with an ok intensity. Medium (a bit light) body and an average carbonation. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Floral, biscuit, toffee, mild citric and a bit fruity flavor. Nice session able ale.

Shinny golden amber with a medium white head. Medium crystal with some nutty notes on the nose. Same malty nuttines with some fruity esthers flavor. Medium to light palate. Not spectacular, but needs to be drunk cool instead of cold
