A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool. Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif. Available (pasteurised) in 500ml bottles and 500ml cans.

A dark copper brown coloured beer with a thick off white head. A rich malt aroma, caramel, honey and nutty. Dry mouthfeel. A dry malt taste, biscuity and nutty, then a mildly sweeter caramel and honey flavour that adds a balance to the finish.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Deeper clear copper colour with a thin head. Has a grainy bitterness, but not too bitter with a small sweetness in both aroma and taste.

Bottle sample from notes. Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor had some fruit, toasted bread, lightly sweet caramel malt, mild earthy hop character, mild bitterness, a hint of floral notes, rather boring. About what I would expect from an imported bitter in the US.

Pint bottle. Dark amber with a little foam that does not last long. A malty aroma that also has fruit. Not big. The flavor begins spicy and there is some unpleasant sourness underneath. Floral and a bit of toffee. Bitterness is moderate. This is just ok.

Aroma is slightly hoppy, gentle but nice. Pours with medium to a lot of head. More carbonation than usual. Quite pale with an interesting aftertaste that evolves in to a slightly honey-like sensation. Not quite well balanced but still ok.

Burk frn SB. Klar orange brun frg. Vit skumkrona. Doft av aprikosmarmelad och bitterhumle. Medelfyllig kropp. Rund stma och ptaglig bitterhet. Smak av torkade aprikoser, honung, rostad malt och grapefrukt. En trevlig bitter.

Bitters just dont hold up for commercial distribution, so get em local or brew em yourself. With that said the aroma is caramelized sugar sweetness with a stale bread smell. The favor is much the same with a lot of toffee flavor and the burton on trent body and saltiness youd expect. A muted version of a great style not worth the money here in the states. Get your bitters fresh, young and tender.
