2012 Edition, aged into a medicinal molasses and varnish aroma. Dark brown morass. Dark fruit taste like a quad, but more booze laden with some cask elements and no spicing belying the English tradition. It’s heavy and potent, but not insanely so like the barleywines found in the US. A good traditional example.
Brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruits and alcohol. Ver smooth. Tastes more like a Belgian strong ale. Korcz (3388) - Warsaw, POLAND - NOV 1, 2016

Bottle from Beltramo’s Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is malty, dark fruits, slight booze. Taste is malty with mild hops on the finish. An expected and excellent example of a English Barley Wine. vyvvy (6959) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 6, 2016
It puts dark nutty brown with a dense tan head. The aroma has figs, dates, deep toasted malt, molasses and a touch of honey. It has a fairly full rich body with a modest amount of carbonation. The taste starts like the aroma with but with crackers and earthy hops. The finish has heavier molasses. Pretty good. rondphoto (4552) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - MAR 12, 2016
bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of malt and faint cherry. Opaque black/brown color, beige head that drops to a cover, curtain of lace. Taste is heavy malt that adds light carbonation and dried fruitcake fruit as it moves to a lingering mild hop and fruit finish. Heavy in the stomach, which drops it a notch, thick and chewy, not particularly complex.

2012 bottle poured into a brandy snifter. 11.2 ounce bottle. The beer is a dark brown to ruby color with a beige head of foam that dissipates down to a thin cap. The aroma has dark fruits, leather, and some cooked cherry. Tastes like warm cooked cherries. Interesting. The taste also has some bitterness in there as well, that gets a touch medicinal, but it doesnt detract too much. Bigger bodied beer with medium carbonation. The bitterness may actually me some oxidation coming through in a weird way. I’m getting some papery notes. wxman (1870) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - JAN 1, 2016
Pours a clear dark ruby/brown with a decent light tan head. Aroma is licorice and blueberries. Taste is roasted malt, brown sugar, molasses, coffee, and a bit of licorice. Bitterness from the roasted barley and hops comes through at the end. ABV pretty well hidden, but there is some warmth after the swallow. Quality barleywine. 2012 bottle. Poured brown tan. Roasted malts and fruits and a bit of spice. Not reminding me of American barley wines but that’s just fine CanIHave4Beers (4273) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - DEC 26, 2015

Pours a dark reddish brown with a big tan head and nice lacing on the glass.
Aroma is mild, it’s got some cooked fruit, some nuttiness, & a little bit of toffee. Sort of metallic and a touch oxidized, although no moreso than any other time I’ve tried this beer.
The flavor is plesant, it’s got some baking spice and apple rind... some cooked fruit, some leafiness & a reasonably reserved sweetness. The alcohol is pronounced but the character suits the beer well & there is a more pronounced nuttiness the warmer the beer gets. I don’t catch a ton of oxidive notes in the flavor, at least not as much as I catch in the aroma.
This lil guy has been in a cool dark basment more or less untouched since right about the time it hit shelves in the state so 2 or 3 years ago. I’ve had samples of this beer that are from bottles that were verifiably not kept under such conditions & even a year ago they were terrible. This isn’t the best Barley Wine I’ve had by a long shot, but I’m surprised given all the other samplings of this vintage that this was as good as it is.
Pours dark with small tan head. Sweet aroma with notes of cherry. Taste of cherry as well, also strong molasses with a smooth finish. Really enjoyable.
