This Adriaen Brouwer, which is re-fermented in the bottle, is surprisingly complex. The nose of this Oudenaarde Brown beer features malt, caramel and dry fruit, with the merest hint of acidity. The finish is bitter-sweet, and the alcohol adds a warm glow. A balanced beer with a full mouth-feel. Could the painter and bon vivant Adriaen Brouwer have wished for anything more?

An underrated belgian strong ale. Dark brown with huge head. Malty scent. Sweet but balanced, a bit of salty notes at the end (reminded me of Westvleteren 8 at this point). Delicious, and not too expensive, ill have more in the future, no doubt

Poured the beer from a large bottle into a trappist-style glass to drink. The appearance was a mostly-cloudy dirty brown color with a slight deep amber hue and an average-sized foamy and creamy off-white head with modest retention, good lacing, and light cling. Its aroma featured dark fruits, including raisins and prunes, and lighter floral and earthy notes, along with a touch of caramel. The taste had a slightly sweet earthy-floral effect with a touch of sour grain and some light caramel malt, but was under-developed overall. Its body had low-to-average carbonation and fizz with a somewhat flat and wet mouthfeel with low density.

Pours a clear deep reddish brown with a high creamy head. Initially displays a slight sweetness that gives way to a lightly sour, medium bitterness. The finish is distinctly sour and slighty astringent.

Pours a dark amber color with a tall khaki head. Pleasant fruitiness on the nose of banana, plum, and pear. Some hints of apple and a nice spice aroma of nutmeg and clove. Some sweet toffee and toasted bread in there as well. The flavor is a hint metallic, but otherwise good. Nice sweet maltiness, some banana fruit notes, and a subtle spiciness. Undertones of nutmeg and clove, light alcohol warmth to it as well.

Aromas of vanilla, maple, and caramel. Deep brown color with a fat foam top. Overbearing carbonation upfront with a vanilla, caramel and alcohol backbone. Overall, the flavors are well balanced but the carbonation is way too overbearing and intense. Id give this a C rating.

Poured from 330 ml bottle. Clear, sparkling, orange-red brown with an enormous head if cream-colored, creamy foam that settles slowly to leave very nice lacing. Aroma of dark bread malt, yeast, toffee, honey, grape, plum and raisin. Taste of sweet dark malt, molasses, toffee, prunes, red wine grapes, tropical fruit and a touch of clove. Sweet, fruity and malty, but with enough complexity to keep your interest. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wittales (762) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Appearance was hazy reddish root beer with creamy diminishing off white 1 finger head, lacing throughout. Aromas are sweet biscuity caramel malts hints of nut and spicey herbal hops, touches of warming alcohol and fruity esters. Taste was deep fruits of cherry, fig, raisans, then caramel sweet malt backing. A warming alcoholic backend. Palate was silky creamy champagne-like CO2 with meduim-full body. A long deep fruity sweet warming finish. To much bubbles and alcohol ...

Poured from big bottle. Aroma of brown sugar, marshmallow and gas. Dark mahogany with lasting tan head. I taste brown sugar, molasses, French toast, clove, nutmeg. I taste a bit of alcohol in the back. Not as intensely flavored as others, but has a lot to offer. Well done.
