This Adriaen Brouwer, which is re-fermented in the bottle, is surprisingly complex. The nose of this Oudenaarde Brown beer features malt, caramel and dry fruit, with the merest hint of acidity. The finish is bitter-sweet, and the alcohol adds a warm glow. A balanced beer with a full mouth-feel. Could the painter and bon vivant Adriaen Brouwer have wished for anything more?

330mL bottle 8.5% BB 11/03/2019 Best describe this as close to a Belgian Dubbel in style - lovely looking beer; deep bronze with dense off-white cream persisting atop. Get a good whiff of bread crust malt upfront, dark sugars, slightest hint of cocoa leading onto dark plummy, pruney notes, peppery spice, old wood, vanilla, nutmeg - nice! Body leaner than expecting - daresay that booze cuts through & thins out the initial richness - creamy carbonation but lacks that velvety smoothness that the best Belgians tend to have. Plenty of plum on the palate, savoury sort of affair, burnt sugars, browned bread crust, woody spices, lingering prune & sultana notes. Faintest whiff of booze, finish is somewhat shorter than expected for a big beer. Solid sort of Dubbel - bit more body would be ideal.

Sweetish, candi sugar aroma and taste at first. Underneath the carbonation a little more depth: some butterscotch, caramel, dried plums, light grainy bitterness nice alcoholic warmth. Not bad, beyond the candi sugar it has a refined taste but the carbonation is spoiling it a bit. One of those beers where you have to did too hard to fully appreciate it.

Pours dark brown with a large lasting head. Nose shows figs, sultanas, golden syrup and chocolate. Flavours include more figs and golden syrup along with faint chocolate and an unfortunate metallic and cardboard-like note. Carbonation is crazy, stupidly high. Blows-up-in-your-mouth high.

Bottle at Volkscafe St Jakob Brugge. Dark brown colour lasting beige head. Malty beer. Too fizzy. Some light chocolate. Chocolate mousse. Yes alittle one dimensional but the malty fruit and chocolate is a goox combo. Shame the carbonation is too harsh on thd finish.

Leuk biertje.

33cl bottle from estucerveza. Dark brown red black. Thin beige head. Light medium sweetness, light medium bitterness. Medium body. Medium high carbonation. Aroma and flavour is nutty, chocolate, fruity, caramel, vanilla.

Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting beige head that leaves lacing. The aroma contains roasted malt, dark fruit, licorice, caramel and spices. It tastes medium sweet and medium to light bitter. Lively carbonation (a bit too much), medium long aftertaste, oily texture and alcoholic. Very fine.

Chocolade bruine kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt zoetig. Smaakt zoetig. Zoetig bier.
