COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. Bottle shared at De Paas. Pours clear bet with a small off white head. Aroma is smokey, ham, some wood, BBQ, caramel and a little dark fruits. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, a little saltiness like with a good ham. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A beautiful smoked beer.

Bottle to glass. Amber pour with a thin head. Nose is mild smoke with malt body and oak. Really smooth body, Taste is Smokey with some oak, ham, caramel. Mild bitter finish/aftertaste.

2/10/2011: Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche Doppelbock (Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Double Bock)... Aroma: Has that wonderful, trademark Schlenkerla smokiness (a true rauchbier!) along with a caramlized fruity maltiness that I can only describe as being like heavily caramelized corn on the cob when cooked in the husk over an open fire; this beer smells GREAT! Appearance: Golden yellow color with only a slight haze; roiling carbonation creates a hypnotic effect; dense and lasting head of beige foam. Flavor: Meaty smokiness that nicely balanced with a moderately sweet and malty bockbier; I get some of that caramelized corn on the cob as well (this is meant to describe the nice caramelization and fruitiness; I’m not saying that there is any corn in this beer nor does it have any cereal graininess or corn like found in American macro lagers) - actually, maybe a better description is smoked cheese rind!; finish is slightly dry and the alcohol strength is firm, but not overwhelming. Palate: Very smooth and even a bit creamy; medium-full body; good weight and mouthfeel; slightly oily. Overall: Delicious! More smoke is always appreciated, but this is a nicely balanced and approachable smoked beer for those new to the style; the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen is still my favorite though!

From bottle. Pours amber with small cream head and very slight lacing. The smell alone is worth buying this beer for. Rich smokey aroma, big oaky notes as you’d expect, with some smoked pork or ham. It’s got a sweetness to it which is lovely. Flavour is like smoked ham hough, wood, dark malts and a caramel touch. I’d liken the aftertaste to smoked honey roast ham, which is a high achievement indeed. Medium body and very enjoyable.

Thanks to kiwianer for sharing! Pours slightly hazy brown/orange with a loose tan head. Huge wood and smoke nose - I can huff this stuff! Taste is similar to the nose. Huge wood & smoke with some fruit ending dry. Nice medium body, a bit oily. Great stuff!!

Slightly darker amber color, large head, decent lacing and retention. Rich smokey aroma with notes of bacon, light oak, light vanilla, light caramel. I could smell this shit all day, it’s fucking glorious. Medium bodied, silky mouthfeel, dangerously drinkable. I’ve had dozens of smoked beers, this is my absolute favorite. Nothing matches the balance and flavor components here. A great doppelbock with a flawless smoke presence with some oak aging characteristics. Why yes please I’ll have another. Inject this shit into my veins, this is a world beater.

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place, thanks DSG. Clearish amber. Deep smoky wooden aroma and something slightly fruity and sweet too. Smoke, a little sweet and fruity in the mouth. Bitter smoky finish. Balanced and amazing.

Deep amber with a cream head. Nose is beef, BBQ, liquid smoke, light wood, and sweet. Great on the palate, smooth smokiness, malts, wood, BBQ, beef, fantastic.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Slightly hazy deep amber. Great smoked sausages aroma with some wood. Malty flavor, rather sweet, with caramel, a bit of nuts, lots of smoked meat, and a drier finish, smoky and woody. Medium-bodied, oily and pretty rounded mouthfeel. Very good.

Huge smoke notes in the aroma. Thin head with some lace. Taste is like a hot dog or smoked ham. Easy drinking with a medium mouth. Hands down one of the better smoked beers I’ve had in the style.
