COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 26, 2012
Appearance: deep amber – like the inside of a freshly cut cedar tree. Orange pithy head fades into a thin collar of tight tiny bubbles. Swirls average.
Nose: oak and cedar gets in your face and never leaves. Umami savorance. Applewood smoke and applewood smoked bacon. Brief presence of toasted nuts in the middle. Apple cores. Spicy melted caramel in the back.
Palate: smoky, sweet, melted caramel, and nutty toffee in the back. Caramel brittle. Starts out sticky then finishes dry which induces thirst for more, thirst I am happy to oblige. Caramel coated applewood smoked bacon brittle delights. Orange oils. Charred oak in my breath. Honeycomb.
Final Thoughts: magnificence in a glass. Aecht Schlenkerla never disappoints. Never. Like sours and Bretty beers, smoked (Rauche) beers are an acquired taste but once you fall in love, you fall in love forever.

Pours dark brown with a real thin head. The aroma is all smoke. Taste is of smoke and maybe a little bit of malt. Overall this is a really good beer have had smoke that didn't taste like smoke and I like this.

hauxe (969) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - DEC 14, 2017
Brown from the bottle. Creamy head with sticky lacing that clings to the glass. Aroma is woodsmoke, raisins, candied apple, caramel. Taste is sweet with a charred smokey bitterness to keep things in balance. Finishes full of smoke. Body stays to the lighter side of medium with mildly oily hints. Overall very nice.

500ml brown bottle poured into a pint glass. Appearance is clear amber with a small foamy khaki head that settled quickly. Aroma of smoked and cured charkuteries, vanilla, muscovado, wooden notes, toffee, dried apricots and a hint of rye-sourdough bread. Taste is medium-heavy sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied, smooth texture and average carbonation. Overall a great smoked beer.

jamestulloch (4371) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 27, 2017
Bottle from Cork & Cask. Clear ruby/amber body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cigar, toffee and smoked sausage. Flavour of chestnuts, wood and ham. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A meal in a glass. I always find the first sip quite jarring but after that it goes down very smoothly.

The beer pours clear and mahogany colored with a two finger head that doesn't leave anything on the glass when it disappears.

Nose: Caramel malt, smoke, honey, syrup, oak, toffee and nuts.
Taste: Caramel, oak, honey, prune, smoked wood, raisin and charcuteries.
Mouth: Full body, medium carbonation. Light bitter at the end.

Absolutely beautiful!
