While for the classic "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" traditionally beech has been - and still is - used, the malt for "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is kilned with Oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in the "Schlenkerla Oak Smoke" is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. www.Smokebeer.com

otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 26, 2012
Appearance: deep amber like the inside of a freshly cut cedar tree. Orange pithy head fades into a thin collar of tight tiny bubbles. Swirls average.
Nose: oak and cedar gets in your face and never leaves. Umami savorance. Applewood smoke and applewood smoked bacon. Brief presence of toasted nuts in the middle. Apple cores. Spicy melted caramel in the back.
Palate: smoky, sweet, melted caramel, and nutty toffee in the back. Caramel brittle. Starts out sticky then finishes dry which induces thirst for more, thirst I am happy to oblige. Caramel coated applewood smoked bacon brittle delights. Orange oils. Charred oak in my breath. Honeycomb.
Final Thoughts: magnificence in a glass. Aecht Schlenkerla never disappoints. Never. Like sours and Bretty beers, smoked (Rauche) beers are an acquired taste but once you fall in love, you fall in love forever.

0,5l bottle. Clear deep copper/ruby colour with medium lasting tan head. Aroma: Smokey roasted ham with salt. A bit lighter than the others but better than the weizen. Taste: Full malty and smokey start, way more smokey than the aroma. Has a quite bitter and smokey mouthfeel. More bitter than the others but not as smooth and creamy. The alcohol is higher and you can feel it in the sip. Medium/full body with medium carbonation. Long quite bitter and a bit dry finish.

Bottled. Pours dark ruby colour with quickly disappearing head. Prominent smoky and slighter sweet notes in aroma and taste with sweet finish. Not too heavy bodied yet isnt that easily drinkable, softly carbonated. A beer to my liking.

Draft. Strong aroma of smoked ham, some malty bread and grainy notes but smokiness is overwhelming. Very full and thick mouthfeel with heavy smoky taste. Very well balanced sweetness, smokyness and bitterness. Classy!

Ciało spore, w ustach oleiste i gładkie, wysycenie średnie. Świetny klasyk, w dobrej cenie, bardzo ułożony i przyjemny w odbiorze.
