The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Draft from wooden cask at Lagerhaus (Palm Harbor, FL). It pours a slightly cloudy auburn color with a billowy foamed tan head. The smoked malt is immediately noticeable in the aroma, but upon first sip it completely engulfs you, in a good way. This is truly a delicious beer. Glad I was able to finally find and try this one given the extremely small window of opportunity.

Bottle (from ebrowarium.pl). Pours dark copper with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is typical schlenkerla smoke, bacon, malt, caramel, some graininess. Flavor is sweet and bitter, caramel, malt, smoke. Finish is caramel and really nice dry bitter (don't remember the other schlenkerlas being as bitter). Carbonation is rather high. Overall: great.

Flasche, 50cL. Ein funkelndes dunkles Kastanienbier mit einem großen weißen Schaumkopf; rauch leichter Karamell, Braten, Kräuternote. Mittlere Runde süß, leicht trocken frisch bitter; Lichtwärmende Atmosphäre. Mittlerer Körper, leicht trockenes, rauchiges, frisches Finish. Insgesamt toll!

Aroma of traditional polish sausage with toast, bread malty accents. Medium sweetness and lower smoked flavor than in aroma but still intensive. Light bitterness with medium body, average carbonation and long smoked aftertaste.

Klares Rotbraun mit reichlich Schaum. Malzig, Röstaromen, Nüsse, rauchig, etwas Schinken, leicht erdig, würzig.

Kolor: Bordowy, zamglony. Piana: Beżowa, średnio obfita, szybko się dziurawi i zaczyna opadać. Zapach: Wędzona szynka, drewno z ogniska i popiół, trochę karmelu.

Bottle Pours very deep brown hue with a nice foamy soapy eggshell head with nice lacing all around. nose is smoke, peat, meat, campfire and all. Flavors show traits of sallted meats, wood, smoke, sweet dark malts but mostly smoked meats. There maybe a veg note long into the finish but it is not detracting. Very dry palate and finish. body is medium but with big slickness to it. Long finish goes on forever. Another solid smoked beer from these guys.

Bottle, thanks to SinH4! Pours an amber brown with a big, tan head. Aroma is delicate and complex. Woodsmoke, some berries, grass, ham, roasty caramel, some herbs, a bit yeasty. Starts out medium sweet, turns a bit tart, with light hoppy bitter notes, more dry towards the finish. Smooth medium body, with medium carbonation. With great balance comes great drinkability. Loved it. Thanks Stefan!

Deep brown with a thick tan head that settles out nicely. Smell reminds me of a Christmas ham, smoky, meaty, a little toffee as well. Taste is sweetish, smoky bacon, bitter ashy hit to it, finishes long and bitter. Fantastic

Ar: Sweet, oily smoke; toasted bread and a bit of char. Ap: Deep amber-brown, almost mahogany; crystal clear; large light tan head with very good retention, leaving a puffy cap of foam and pulling-webs on the glass sides as it subsides. T: Oil and toast crusts; light sweetness and deep, layered smoke; ash and char mingle with a medium-low bitterness; red apple and plum; oaky and peppery; depth of tangy toasted malt throughout. P: Medium body with high carbonation; finish is medium-dry. O: Nice richly malt take on a rauchbier; the smoke and oil persist throughout; tangy melanoidin maltiness.

W aromacie mocna szynkowa wędzonka. Smakuje podobnie, ale jakby mniej wyraziście, dodatkowe nuty ciemnego chleba. Trochę mało ciała.
