“Schlenkerla Helles” is brewed with fine Bavarian aroma hops from the area around the city of Nürnberg. It’s lagered in century old caves underneath the historic Schlenkerla brewery and maltings. Schlenkerla Helles is boiled in the same copper kettles and bottom fermented by the same yeast as the historic Schlenkerla Smokebeer. Its subtle smokiness without using smoke malt makes “Helles Schlenkerla Lager” a unique representative of the classic lager beer style “Bavarian Helles”. Editor’s note: Since this is not intended as a smoked beer, and is not billed as such, it has been classed here as a Helles, despite some samples having residual smoke character.

Finger of head. Clear, medium straw colored body. Smells like bread, grain and smoke in that order. Nice sweet taste, mild bitterness. Smoke in the background throughout. A really nice balance of flavors. Crisp and light body, moderate carbonation. Short finish. Enjoyable. A lager with some gentle smoke to it.

A very easy drinking lager. A real pleasure on tap. This bier is not as smokey as the other beers from this brewery in Bamberg ,Germany. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

En helles er en lys øltype der smager henad en pilsner, så det er med en hvis spænding jeg åbner denne øl, er der røg i? der er lidt røg i baggrunden, det er specielt at drikke en så lys og bitter øl med et stænk røg over sig.

Zajímavé skvělé pivo, s úžasným aromatem, naprosto silnou perlivostí a tím i masivním svěžím řízem. Cítit bylo i prvky nakuřování.

Bottle from Asao. A Top 50 Helles that is smoked and available at like 610 yen +tx for 500ml, sold! A sweet lightly smoked ham aroma on a deep gold body. The taste is smoked but smooth. Not as complex as other Schlenkerla beers but a really fun lager.

Very appealing looking beer, clear golden with visible carbonation and a little white head. What I didn't expect, but perhaps should have given it's from Schlenkerla, was the smokey finish. Interesting palate, give it a go! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. Clear golden body with a medium white head. Smoke, hay, malt. Great smoked lager.

500ml bottle. Pours clear yellow with a long lasting white sea foam head, nice lacing. Smells like a campfire and toast. Tastes of grass and wheat with a delicious lightly smoked finish. Nicely balanced, really enjoyed this.

I expected a lot more smoke in this one. The result is a good, but average dortmunder with crisp and refreshing bitterness.

0,5 l bottle. Clear golden in the glass, one finger white head. Defintive smoke on the nose. Taste starts also really smokey, some malt in the background. But really easy to drink. Very tasty for a Helles.
