English Translation:
"Kräusen" describes the bubbles that form during the fermentation of green (young) beer. The addition of a small amount of such green beer to an already mature beer is called "Kräusening". Kräusening adds the full flavor maturity of the stored beer to the liveliness of the green beer that is added.

Schlenkerla Kräusen is an amber, unfiltered lager with a slight smoky taste. It ripens in the deep tunnels under Bamberg until just before adding the classic Schlenkerla smoked beer. Tasty and not too much alcohol, it is the perfect refreshment for a warm season.

Hildigöltur (5103) - København, DENMARK - JUN 7, 2011
Draught at Ølbaren, Kopenhagen. Unknown colour, but the black stein decorated with a silver iron cross with oak leaves is beautiful. Aroma of bread with a touch of smoke and eggs. Very inviting and fresh. Smooth smoky malt flavour with an amazing freshness due to the Aufkräusung. Even some fresh hoppiness in the finish. Sparkling, yet soft carbonation. The perfect Summer beer. Servus!

This was the greatest beer I have ever had. Apparently there is reason they have been around for 500 plus years(sarcasm). Honestly it was fantastic I don’t even know what to compare it to.

allesmetkaas (179) - NETHERLANDS - JUL 28, 2013
On tap @ In de Wilderman. Pours clear chestnut with an off-white head. Aroma of smoked Bacon with a taste to match. I admit this is over rated, but I just love this beer

My Bottom Line :
Toasted malts and lenient smoke take this full-bodied unfiltered lager into a levelled herbal hop bitterness. Levelled, cohesive, flavorful and super drinkable. Beautiful.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A healthy head of foam laces atop the hazy amber-blond.
-The mouthfeel is fuller than their Märzen’s.
-This may not be complex, but the flavors are so well intertwined that the flavor profile is quite endearing.
-The aroma is pleasant, but the flavor profile delivers even more enjoyment.
-I hope they replace their bottled Helles Lagerbier with this superb creation.

At the Schlenkerla ausschank.

Growler from Bierkraft. Golden copper with lasting white head and lace. Mild smoky grassy hay aroma with a tiny citrus hint. Biscuity malty grassy with underlying sweet malty smoky bitterness and lingering noble hop bitterness. Medium body, fairly rich for a pale lager. Excellent. I could drink this all day. Oh, what do you know? I have.

Smoked malt with a touch of toffee and apple aroma. Sweet pear and light smoke taste with a bit of honey and dough. Herbal and grassy hops at the end. Lovely.

adamnowek (3313) - Brussels, BELGIUM - FEB 18, 2016
Draught at Craft & Draft in Amsterdam. Slightly opaque copper colour with a huge, creamy head. Aroma is a lot of campfire smoke and some smoked ham. Smooth, subtle smoke in taste.

Tap at Ginger Man - Hazy golden-amber pour topped by a tight sticky white head. The aroma is quite lightly smoky with a touch of noble/minerally hoppiness. Creamy palate with a lovely soft malt sweetness. Rounded character that really melds the malt, hops and smoke. Soft and a little bit sweet. A touch of light sweetness along with a touch of soft chewiness. Moderate minerally bitterness on the back. It doesn’t quite rise to the heights if the Urbock or the Marzen, but it’s a fine drink nonetheless.

blipp (9696) - La Mesa, California, USA - OCT 22, 2011
Draft. Pours amber orange with an off white head. Toasted malty aroma with some light smokey notes. The flavor has toasted and smoked malts with a very light sweetness, bread crust, and light earthy notes. Very clean and outrageously drinkable. Really good.

omikr0n (958) - Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC - JUN 9, 2013
On tap from wooden barrel at the brewpub. Pours cloudy brown to amber with generous white head. Aroma is yeasty, malty with some caramel and smokey tones. Flavor is malt, yeast, smoke, butter biscuits. Lots of tiny bubbles tinkering the tongue. Awesome.
