Poured into a tulip glass. Copper color, almost opaque. Nice inch and half of dirty-white head.
Well, as I poured it I could smell the smoke. It is like being at a campfire as only the embers are glowing with no flames. Amazing.
Smoky grain taste, light hop bitterness at the end. Very smooth flavor.
Soft, medium body, moderate carbonation. A little less carbonation would be nicer for me, but it does not hold the beer back at all.
Excellent. Easy to drink and hits the Rauchbier notes perfectly (it is the original apparently).

, Copenhagen - Dark. Down pour with beige head. Smoked toasted roasted malty with some prominent meaty smoked notes coming in, burnt grass, charred burnt malty extends, dark smoked malty into the finish. Can't believe I have not rated this before,

Very Malty; smoked malts, toasty, smoked ham, smoked sausage, campfire. Hoppy; moderate hop bitterness. Quite dry. Fantastic smoked malts taste. So drinkable. Always good. Genuinely, a classic beer. Tastes like liquid bacon. Smoky, thick. Dark appearance. Unique among beers

bottle. light brown with one finger head. huge smokey bacon aroma. Big smoke, caramel and brown sugar. I'm not a big fan of smokey beers, but it's clear that this is well executed. I wish the underlying beer had more character, but it's quite overwhelmed by the smoke flavor. Enjoyed, but would not seek out again. AssKicker (630) - Strasbourg, FRANCE - OCT 12, 2017

Pours a reddish brown with a thin off white head. The aroma is smoked meat, smokey, woody, and some caramel hidden in there behind all the smokiness. The flavor is more of the same. This is certainly a novelty beer but worth a try. Piepenhenrich (1124) - Steinbach, GERMANY - OCT 8, 2017
For sure not everybody's favorite, but Rauchbier in general, and Schlenkerla in particular, are one of these extraordinary alternatives to the classic brews. Strong, distinct flavors of smoke and roast, smoked ham give this a very special note, without being too heavy. Well recommended! Andrus86 (686) - Busselton, WA, AUSTRALIA - OCT 7, 2017
