Entry-ticket at Fonefan, Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, smoke, wood. Moderate sweet and light bitter with lingering smoky notes. Medium and sticky.

Bottle, thanks to SinH4! Amber brown with a medium beige head. Ham, wood smoke, some malts, raisins, a hint of herbs, coffee and leather. Light sweetness, a bit of umami, light bitterness. Slick, light to medium body with pearly carbonation. The classic. A gateway drug into the world of Rauchbier. And apart from the smoke a delightful Märzen as well.

On taste, Smells like your jacket after a night around a campfire. On taste, smoked malt, yes, by definition. Smoked meats, sure I can imagine that. Maybe some smoked nuts (though no one else says so). Or maybe it’s just smoked smoke. I like it.

Bottle. Colacolored with lasting whithe head. Aroma is massive smoked. Nothing else is possible to detect. Taste is also a lot of smoked, but some bacon and caramel there as well. Nice.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear red-brown with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Aroma of smoked malt, bacon, wood and roast. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, smoke, meat and wood with a mildly bitter, ashy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice. These guys are experts when it comes to smoked beers, all are world class.

Draft. Quite a strong, smoky honey oak to this one. I found the smokiness perhaps a bit too much, but I like that they really swing for the fences with this one. Nice amber pour with tan foamy head. Vegetable oil, BBQ sauce finish. Probably only one you can have on occasion when in the mood, but a very decent effort.

Deep brown with a quickly dissipating thin tan head. Smoky, meaty aromas; had it side by side with the fastenbier and this is a lot more subdued. Taste is smoky bacon, woody, a little sweetness, mild, long smoky finish

Learned about this one from an LCBO article early this Summer. Didn’t know what to expect. I had grid the DDC Charbonniere before. This one is like drinking a smoked gouda, or a smoked salami, smoked trout, rich and flavourful, next time I have cheese and cold cuts, this beer will be beside me.
