COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Butelka 0,5l. Aromat wędzonki, trochę fenolowy, ładnie to skomponowane. W smaku bardzo mocno wytrawne, kwaskowe, posmak wędzony.

Zapach z butelki - totalna szynka, troszkę ogniskowego dymu

8. 2. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. As a fan of smoked beer AND wheat beer I was really surprised with the funny combo of fully present souerness of this beer. Not at all to my taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

KeefOz (1801) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - FEB 4, 2017
Poured a translucent (just) dark brown with a red tint and 5mm of light tan dense foam head that diminished slowly to a cap but laced poorly. Carbonation high, lively and coarse. Aroma of open-fire smoked bacon and smoked ham, hints of spices/cloves and maybe a hint of vanilla; very similar smoked characters to the normal Rauchbier but softer. Taste initially of sweet dark malt followed quickly by lots of open-fire like smoked ham and bacon, a hint of sweet banana and a hint of spices/cloves. Medium body (not a heavy as the standard Rauchbier). Smooth and slightly creamy with a nice smokey finish. A lot milder than I remember the standard Rauchbier. Nice.

Brown body, big fluffy white head. Aroma of smoke (lots), bacon (lots), malt, light caramely notes. Flavours of smoke, bacon, stronger malt profile, sweet notes. Not as smoky as the nose suggest. The smoke is well balanced by the malt. Medium-long smoke, burned wood and bacon finish, slightly dry. Medium-light body, high carbo. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

GoufCustom (1950) - HONG KONG - JAN 20, 2017

500 ml bottle bought at Running Beers booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during The 14th Hong Kong Food Festival.

Looks:Translucent amber brown colour with a thick layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two and a half finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant smoked malt, with well-done bacon, bacon bits, banana, caramel, strong amber-ness, fresh toast, floral, molasses, wood, strong cloves, dark bread, strong yeast, lemon and strong grass.

Taste: Medium sweet malt, with strong wheat, moderate tartness, strong caramel, strong amber-ness, strong banana, quite strong bacon flesh, light ash, burnt toast, floral, strong molasses, strong earth, thick bread, lemon, medium bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body; Dry and creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Strong maltyness in a thick background, very creamy for a Weiss with lots of caramel and fresh toast here! The smoky bacon and ash is notable and in just-right amount. Weiss-wise the wheaty tartness is moderate, the banana ester and cloves is rich and tasty. Flowery earthy with solid sweetness on par with the Rauch Maerzen. Very bready and yeasty with strong lemon to round. Rock solid and then some!

Hoppiness: Floral, wood, lemon and grass in nose. Earth, floral, strong lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong for a lasting, medium astringent meaty estery malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Malty, meaty-smoky and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: While the Rauch Maerzen is fully expressive, this Rauch Weiss is just as good with the smoked malt, very fruity and spicy ester, and a strong amber caramel toastyness that is the signature of this brand. Smokiness aside, this is perhaps one of the richest and tastiest Weissebier I have had so far. Great stuff!

SonOfAnarchy (420) - ST HELENA - JAN 13, 2017
500 ml bottle. Pours hazy dark ruby/brown, beige head. Aroma is smoked ham. Taste is definitely smoked with flavors of wheat malt, ash and slight esters. Smoked wheat in the finish. Full body, average carbonation. Not really a weizen anymore. With this amount of smokiness its definitely a rauchweizen.
