Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Mid to dark brown color with short lasting foam. Smell of smoked ham. Taste is good in balance and if you like smoked beers you probably like this one.

500 ml bottle bought at Running Beers booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during The 14th Hong Kong Food Festival.

Looks:Translucent amber brown colour with a thick layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two and a half finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant smoked malt, with well-done bacon, bacon bits, banana, caramel, strong amber-ness, fresh toast, floral, molasses, wood, strong cloves, dark bread, strong yeast, lemon and strong grass.

Taste: Medium sweet malt, with strong wheat, moderate tartness, strong caramel, strong amber-ness, strong banana, quite strong bacon flesh, light ash, burnt toast, floral, strong molasses, strong earth, thick bread, lemon, medium bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body; Dry and creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Strong maltyness in a thick background, very creamy for a Weiss with lots of caramel and fresh toast here! The smoky bacon and ash is notable and in just-right amount. Weiss-wise the wheaty tartness is moderate, the banana ester and cloves is rich and tasty. Flowery earthy with solid sweetness on par with the Rauch Maerzen. Very bready and yeasty with strong lemon to round. Rock solid and then some!

Hoppiness: Floral, wood, lemon and grass in nose. Earth, floral, strong lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong for a lasting, medium astringent meaty estery malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Malty, meaty-smoky and quite bitter to mouth.

Comments: While the Rauch Maerzen is fully expressive, this Rauch Weiss is just as good with the smoked malt, very fruity and spicy ester, and a strong amber caramel toastyness that is the signature of this brand. Smokiness aside, this is perhaps one of the richest and tastiest Weissebier I have had so far. Great stuff!

500 ml bottle. Pours hazy dark ruby/brown, beige head. Aroma is smoked ham. Taste is definitely smoked with flavors of wheat malt, ash and slight esters. Smoked wheat in the finish. Full body, average carbonation. Not really a weizen anymore. With this amount of smokiness its definitely a rauchweizen.

Aroma is dominated by meat smokiness with some gentle woody touch. Hints of wheaty fullness in the background. Cloudy brown in the glass with frothy tan head. Ashtray notes in the mouth with some woody smokiness. Roasted malts are also noticeable. Where is that wheat?

Dość mocny aromat wędzenia klasycznym drzewem, szynka lekki popił, przysmalenie. W kolorze ciemny bursztyn/miedziany, oplalany, piana niezbyt trwała - zostaje dywanik. W smaku wyraźna wędzonka, słodowość pszenicy, karmel, lekka goryczka. Dobry balans. Pijalność wysoka. Wysycenie średnie. Piwo treściwe.

Ciemno bursztynowe, herbaciane. Piana drobno i średnio pęcherzykowa, beżowa. W aromacie wyraźne nuty wędzone. Jest też nuta owocowa. Pachnie wytrawnie. W smaku pojawia się wyraźna pszenica, kojarzy się trochę z dunkel weizen. W smaku lekko wytrawne, słodycz bardzo niska. Goryczka rwnież. Bardzo dobre piwo.

0,5l bottle. Very hazy mud like dark copper colour with medium lasting off-white head. Aroma: Smoked ham, basement aromas. Taste: Smokey start with light bitter mouthfeel but the smokey caracter lasts. A bit acidic. Not bad but lacks the strong caracteristics of the urbock version. Medium body with soft carbonation. Short light bitter finish.
