Personal contribution. 50 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. BBF 5/12/2017. Murky brownish amber with mocha bubbles. Smell is very thick candy sugar and caramel malts, syrupy caramel apples, maple syrup, complimentary alcohol, sticky and sweet in a good way. Taste is very thick and sweet maple syrup and candy apples, candy sugar, slight leaves, bitter herbs in the back, warming,… Sticky body, lower carb. Very lovely barleywine. kopyr (11) - Oborniki Śl./Wrocław, POLAND - FEB 19, 2014
Great barleywine. Sweet, liquer like, intense bitterness, raisins, huge maltines, very complex. SvanteL (507) - SWEDEN - OCT 30, 2015
Deep copper red, big tanned head. Aroma of raisins, prunes, alcohol and roasted malts. Taste is very fruity, full malt body, tons of sweetness. Feel is very oily. Nice. Finish is hop intensive and bitter. I find apples and some heavy fruit notes. A very nice beer from Ægir. Probably their best right now
Cloudy, orange-ish brown color, a malty, sweet, flowery bouquet and taste. Intensely sweet, andno hint of alcohol at all. Dangerous, had it not been so filling. Recommended. ALLOVATE (3004) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2016
Big thanks to bergstaden for getting this one across to me. Everything about this ale just worked so well I wish I had the luck of cellaring a few more.ABS (1051) - Stokke, NORWAY - SEP 19, 2016
At cellar temperature and into a tulip. A solid yeast pack holds on the pour. The body of beer a shimmering, deep, ruddy copper. Head is hardy; holding for much of the length a mere half centimetre of pine coloured cream. The legs as you swirl the glass are incredible. Treacly, sweet, golden syrup and caramel on the nose atop hints of peach and apricot, orange blossom, sherbet and boozy sherry. Big body, meaty and viscous with a light spritz of carbonation up front and a lengthy rough malt, burnt sugar and sherry warmth to the finish. Plenty of pale stonefruit and caramelised, sharp and savoury fruit mince coming through. It has a lengthy sweetness that compliments the bitter fruit and chunky malts. Light earthiness and hint of new oak settles in. With all that’s going on it works harmoniously together. For 13.2% ABV it drinks of a barley wine of moderate strength. Delectable yet not overly complex - it has mellowed in the past few years. It just works. A lovely barley wine! (50cL, 2012 vintage)
0,33 L bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Clear, deep amber colour. Close to non-existent, slighly orange head. Apple, alcohol, candy sugar nose. Apple and pear flavour. Fruit. Herbs. Honey. Thick body, sticky and oily. Flat carbonation. Very sweet, with quite a lot of subdued bitterness as well. Brown sugar. Some banana. Medicinal bitterness, in addition to the herbs. Warming. I liked this one a lot. Smaskifa (136) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 17, 2011
Pours small white head, but disappears quickly. Appealing rustique colour. Aroma of caramel and alcohol. Very high alcohol level. Tastes very sweet, caramel and brown sugar. Not very bitter. Quite powerful but balanced taste of alcohol. Low carbonation. Round palate, tasteful.
Impressive beer! Bathory (458) - Kverneland, NORWAY - MAY 28, 2012
UPDATED: JUL 9, 2012 Very complex beer! Aroma of alcohol, caramel, grass and raisins. Aftertaste is caramel, and some hops. Well balanced though. Quite easy to drink, dispite the high avb. Have had this cold and in room temperature, It’s a extreme different taste, way better when it’s room temperature. Never had a beer where the difference is that present.
