Draft sample consumed in early 2012 (from notes). Pours a clear brown color with reddish hints and a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have some sweet malts, mild to moderate smokes malt, not meaty, but a sweeter woody smoke, a fair amount of earthy hops for a smoked beer, hints of chocolate with some bitterness. Not bad. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 14, 2012
On tap at Craft Beer Co. Lucky to be in town after ATG had dropped off so much beer all over London. As a sucker for smoked beers, this one was a particular treat. Hefty but well-carbonated pour, this one came across as less campfire and meat than one often finds in the style. The smokiness was more an intensification of the chocolate and roasted malts, and this enhanced the smoothness and richness of the base porter. FatPhil (17079) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - OCT 1, 2012

Nice smoky aroma. A little watery and fizzy. Finish richly roasted, some smokiness too. Pleasant full-bodied mild.
Tap at the Craft Beer Co - 14/09/12.
Extreme dark brown verging on black with a thin tan head that soon clears to the edge.
Nose of frazzles, smoked gammon, dark malt, charred wood.
Tastes of lightly roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, lighter smoke flavour than the nose suggested.
Medium bodied with slightly prickly carbonation. madmitch76 (25568) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 15, 2012

On tap at the Craft. Opaque black beer with a little tan head. Minerals. Mild roast in the dark malt, trace of bubblegum ester underneath. Smooth smoke is the dominant flavour, the smoke just seems smoother and lighter than most smoked beers but is still the dominant flavour - maybe because it’s beechwood smoke. All comes together with a smooth dry finish. Decent.
August 25, 2012 - on draught at Craft Beer Co. VERY black pour with a smallish frothy beige head. Smokey and incredibly oily roast malt aroma - Islay character for days (iodine and old hemp) - nice! Taste - oh God, even ropier than the aroma - it’s huge with the Islay peat and seaweed, the alcohol can’t be detected it’s so overpowered by the smoke - not for the faint of heart. Slick, still, extremely astringent and smokey, it lasts for a long time in the finish - I like this flavour profile, so I score it high, but it’s not everyone’s thing, that’s for sure. Keg at the Craft Beer Co., London. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige cap. Smokey nose. Light to medium sweet flavor, touches of alcohol and dry wood, definite smoke, light ham. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. A touch thin, it seems. Lasting smoke finish, light to medium sweetness. Not bad, just doesn’t have enough heft. jcr (2763) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Draft. Deep brown, approaching black, body with a fizzy tan head, slowly diminishing. Aroma mostly smoke and sweet malts — caramel and toasted grain — with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter with the bitterness lingering. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The smokiness is far from overpowering and that’s nice. The sweet malts and bitterness round out the beer, though neither contribute much on the flavor end. drfabulous (8585) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Draught at brewpub. Not sure if this listing is the same one I had today. Today’s listed that it was aged in French Oak. But the name was the same. Odd and interesting mix of wheat and oak. Not sure where to place the taste. It’s as if the honey has gone extreme and freaked out. wnoble (1251) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JAN 27, 2012
Pours deep red to black. Beer engine lends little head. Nose is sweet malts and balanced smoked meats and roasty chocolate. One demensional roast is in the flavor all f with pleasant smoke and toasted mats. Dry bitter finish and smokey. Not bad but a little dry for my taste.
