COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Orange Wax (or Reddish orange). Originally an Against the Grain Brewery and Brouwerij De Molen collaboration beer. For the first incarnation, De Molen head brewer Menno Oliver hopped in a muscle car and drove straight through from the Netherlands to Louisville, KY (thats USA folks) to brew this bourbon inspired ale, and we liked it so much, we decided to do it again. We took the ingredients in bourbon whiskey (Barley, Rye, Corn) and then smoked them with cherry wood and brewed a huge imperial stout with them. Then to top it off we aged it in Pappy VanWinkle Bourbon Barrels. The resulting beer is rich, smokey and complex, with a bourbon character of caramel, vanilla and spice. Bottle has orange reddish orange) wax top. Only the first version was aged in Pappy barrels. Pours black with a minimal beige head. Low carbonation. Aroma of vanilla, wood, bourbon and some notes of coffee. Lighter than expected in the palate, with strong malty backbone of roasted malts, some coffee, vanilla, caramel. Low sweetness, good but too hyped. Expected perfection here!

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2016 0,75 bottle bought at the Bottle Shop Hong Kong.Appearance: Pours a deep dark brown colour with medium bubbly beige head.Aroma: Complex and rich aroma of roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, dark chocolate, toffee, dark berries and plums. In addition with bourbon, light burnt wood and oak aroma. Also with mild smokiness which is not overwhelming.Taste: Medium bittersweetness - mainly dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee beans, with some vanilla and plums . Some spice and perhaps liquorice at the end, with some smokiness and light, warming bourbon taste.Palate: Very creamy and silky texture with full body. Low to medium carbonation. The aftertaste is complex and long-lasting with roasted malt and dark chocolate, mixed with some mild sweet vanilla, spice and smokiness. The finish has some warming bourbon alcohol.Overall: A very well balanced and integrated smoked barrel-aged stout. Very mellow, rich and satisfying in all terms. ATG and de Molen do know how to brew an outstanding imperial stout. Wish there is more wonderful collaboration between different breweries. Give big credits to the design of the label as well.

2015 orange wax bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin, quickly disappearing tan head. Aromas of soy sauce, smoke, bourbon, caramel, and vanilla. The taste follows the nose closely. Smoke wasnt over-bearing, which is good, same with the bourbon. It was all kind of mellow, smooth, and easy drinking. Full body with a creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a smooth finish.
