16 oz can to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good for the style; a semi-cloudy amberish brown with lighter caramel head that steadily dissipates into thinner lacing. Smells and tastes oaky and mildly boozy with notes of caramel and vanilla alongside a big malty backbone. Some hops and bourbon on the tongue as well. Mouthfeel is full-bodied, sticky, and pleasantly bitter with a nice but not overwhelming warming alcohol presence. An enjoyable sipper. simontomlinson (374) - Blackburn, Lancashire, ENGLAND - JUN 18, 2017
Beige thin head left a cover on a dark red still body..
Full on woody, oaky, malty aroma with over ripe fruit.
Medium to full body, smooth, no carbonation - feels like an oil slick on the palate - nice though!
Red berries, malt, sugar, woody, spices & slightly herbal. DocJitsu (1978) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - MAY 28, 2017
Pours a muddy bourbon with caramel-khaki head. Bourbon, vanilla, and caramel nose. Very rich. Sticky mouthfeel. Caramel and bourbon flavors. Some grassy tartness as well. Dfonorow (2216) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 14, 2017
Can. Pour is hazy brown with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor of sherry, dried fruit, wood, molasses, and booze. Finish is boozy and sweet. nickd717 (4691) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAY 9, 2017
Can from City Beer. Wow, did they just use -bal in the sense that extreme beer geeks use it? Awesome. So this is a -bal aged barleywine from a legit brewery. Hard to project it for a sub-4 rating from just that. No, I’m not going to surprise you. I love me a good barleywine, as barleywine is life, and -bals, do we have to even? The appearance is great, deep clear reddish amber with a small tan head and average retention. Aroma is great: caramel and toffee, nuts, toast, red berries, oak, well-integrated bourbon. The flavor is medium sweet, nicely toasted, slightly tannic, oaky, with a good medium bitter finish and some slightly hot bourbon. Medium-full body, not too full despite the ABV, and not too hot either. Well carbonated. This is actually really good even though my expectations were that it would be good. Go tick it.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Max. Hazy amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, alcohol, stale hops. Sweet flavor, boozy, with malt, caramel, vanilla, coconut, some fruitiness, and bitter stale hops. Kinda one-dimensional and too boozy. zvikar (6172) - Ramat Gan, ISRAEL - MAR 18, 2017
At Max Place, red to brown with a beige head, aroma of toffee, bourbon, coconut, flavor of coconut, barrel, malt sweetness, medium to full bodied, nice vyvvy (6476) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - MAR 17, 2017
It pours clear bronze with an off white head. The aroma has big caramel, toasted malt, English yeast and some bourbon. It has a smooth full body with light carbonation. The taste has the aroma notes with a bit more booze and bourbon. The roundness of Angles Envy is there as well. Really nice barleywine. ehaak26 (524) - - FEB 26, 2017
On tap at Liquor Barn. Aroma of caramel malts, some hops, alcohol and oak from the barrels.
