COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English style barleywine aged in Angel’s Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didn’t stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angel’s Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

Tap. Bourbon malt and cherry aroma. Cloudy brown color with small head. Sweet toffee malt, bourbon and cherry/berry flavor. Smooth as silk - incredible blending. Can’t believe this is 12.5%.

The aroma is sweet, caramel, bread and a touch bourbon. Pours a caramel brown with a light beige head mostly lasting and excellent lacing. The taste is a medium/light sweet. The body is full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Good!!

English style barleywine, even with English noble hops, named after an old system of measuring gravity. Thanks David for sharing this at the B.U.M.B.A. event in Antwerp! Thick but coarse and rather bubbly, moussy, pale yellowish beige head, hazy peach-hued amber robe. Aroma of purple plums, biscuit, caramel sauce, unripe peach, sweet sherry, candied orange peel, brandy, dried flowers, marmelade. Sweet onset, mandarins and ripe gooseberries, fresh fig, sourish plum juice aspect - a bit strongly so even, hinting at onsetting infection, which is not the first time I encounter it in an Against The Grain beer; sharpish carbo prickling the tongue (clearly too much so for this style and probably mild infection-related as well); supple and full, vinous mouthfeel, biscuity malt sweet body with pleasantly chestnutty edges. The estery, fermenting fruit-like impressions keep lingering all along, ending in ongoing malt sweetness, earthy yeastiness with lots of liqueurish, brandy-like, peppery alcohol. Enjoyable, but clearly on the brink of infection (when is this brewery going to solve this issue?), overcarbonated and a bit too earthy for the intended style.

12 oz. bottle from the brewery as a bonus for the Bo & Luke four pack in 2014. Pours a cloudyaber with a small off-white head that settles into a ring and eventually vanishes. Notes of bourbon soaked wood, brown sugar, caramel, tea, and vanilla. Light-medium bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a boozy mouthfeel. Really bourbon-forward. The age has thinned it but not mellowed the heat.

Can shared. The beer is a cleqr copper with a beige heaf of foam. Good head retention. The aroma has biscuit, honey, toffee, molasses and a sweet vanilla aspect. Sweet and a little boozy. Great cigar beer. Big body and moderate carbonation.

kaserov (1095) - Oviedo, SPAIN - AUG 23, 2017
