COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Strong Ale began life as a bunch of Marris Otter malt. A handful of specialty malts including some caramel malt, aromatic malt, and roasted barley got in on the fun to add a little malty complexity. The hopping rates were reserved, but someone spiked the punch with a gob of dates, plums, and raisins to really emphasize the fruity flavors produced by the Belgian yeast. But being fruity, estery, and malty wasn’t quite enough. After fermentation, this beer spent about two and a half months in some bourbon barrels that had previously held one of our other bourbon barrel aged beers. The result was a very slight bourbon note, a background roasty character, some prominent vanilla-esque oak flavors, and a little aftershock of woody booziness. This one is devastatingly complex, so take your time and enjoy.

Keg at Beergeek Bar for opening night. Pours dark Brown with a Red he and a small cream head. Big Bourbon aroma with a subdued Belgian beer hiding behind it. Caramel and a bit of roasted malt but mainly vanilla pod bourbon wood. Nice though.

Draft at Paradiso Dupont. Deep royal ruby amber color, bright white head. Aroma of rich vinous vanilla and port wine. Taste is wheat and rye biscuit dipped in red wine. Very tasty.

Keg @ Earl of Essex. Parks dark with a sweet bourbon nose, slick mouthfeel with marzipan, bourbon, dark malts, fruit cake and a slight tanginess. Alright.

Keg at Bottleshop, Bermondsey. It pours dark brown with a medium beige head. The nose is soft, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, wood, toffee, dried fruits, varnish and heady alcohol. The taste is bitter, toasty, earth, bourbon, dried berry, earthy, barnyard, mild bitterness and wood with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Big bourbon woody action, but I like it...

On tap at The Bottle Shop London. Clear brown lasting beige head. Sour bourbon on the aroma. Some brown malt. Lots of bourbon in the mouth. Quite sharp on the finish. Base beer is subsumed by the bourbon. Not my thing at all

Keg at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey arches, 10/05/14.
Clear chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering.
Nose is big on the bourbon front, toasted coconut, mellow dark fruits, toffee fudge, a little bourbon heavy but not in an unpleasant way.
Taste comprises dark malts, cocoa powder, brown bread, fruit loaf, dark candied fruit pieces, all a little submerged in and overpowered by bourbon.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a bourbonic rinse.
Ok but way OTT on the bourbon front making it a little 1 dimensional.

On draught at apex - pours dark amber with small but lingering head. Nose of booze and malt. Taste is mostly of booze, wood, malt, and some hop. Mostly warming booze. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
