Pours a deep reddish brown on tap with thin tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of dark fruits, sugar, and sweet malts, almost as if its with ale yeast and not lager. Taste follows, a little thin and sugary, but not bad for what it is. Definitely one of the better beers I had while there.

Draft at source. Red mahogany. Minimal aroma. Thin. Sugary (molasses ). Mediocre. Basically, take Michelob Amber bock and add sugar

Growler at the pub. A clear deep dark red/brown beer with a thin off white head. Scent is malts, caramel and a hint of sugar. Taste is sweet malts, caramel and a hint of nuts. Think I will take another growler home!

Oakes (18472) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 7, 2009
Dark ruby brown. Tart, rotten fruit and cola nose. Earthy, with some molasses but again it’s a little long in the long maybe.

Beershine (5224) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 6, 2009
Deep dark warm brown with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, cocoa, earthy. Soft mouthfeel. A little sourness ruins the palate but otherwise is a nice beer. Maybe it was past its prime. Still, the nice sweet chocolate-cherry malt flavors. A good effort.

shrubber85 (11570) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - DEC 8, 2007
Tap. Strong apple/cherry caramel malt aroma with just a hint of astringency. Red-brown color with minimal head. Caramel cherry malt flavor with a very light astringent finish. A great malty aroma and finish. Usually one doppelbock is enough for a night but this one is so drinkable I could drink it all night.. Great stuff.
