COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

65cl bottle, Shared with friends. Black colour with nice tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, licorice and hints of yeast. Taste is pretty much the same with coffee notes added. Also some smoke. Moderately bitter aftertaste, more coffee-like than hoppy. Medium/full body, good carbonation. A very easy going and tasty Stout.

Bottle at Gents Bierfestival. Banana, dark fruits, caramel, light bitter, fruity stuff, missing a bit of roast for a foreign stout? OK.

Medium, dense dark beige head over jet-black beer. Rich, roasted nose with quite some spirit notes - even when not really barrel aged. Some vanilla, coffee, mocha. Rich coffee taste if little bitterness, roasted to burnt; some faint chocolate and lots of dark malts. Finish, however, has quite some sweetness. Again a strange hint at spirit. Well-bodied, slick to viscous. Gives the impression to be much more alcoholic than it is. Quite good. But new, as the blurb says...?
