COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smooth, rich and creamy. Rye malt blends with roast and chocolate malts to create a new and delicious stout profile, balanced with soft and velvety hops. This northwest original is poured using the traditional nitrogen dispensing method, so it may take an extra minute to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The Black Bear won the Gold Medal at the 2003 GABF in the foreign-style stout category. Have a pint of Stout with the Seven-Barrel Burger or the Beer Battered Onion Rings.

Poured into a pint glass; black with a thick inch of tan head. Smells like chocolate, roasted malt and more chocolate. Great balance. On the tongue: bitter chocolate, toasted malt, grippingly bitter with a caramel aftertaste. Soft and creamy body with light carbonation... quite perfect. Overall a simply amazing drink. Drinks like milk, only better for you.

650ml bottle, jet black with a fine crema, burnt caramel and ash plus a touch of sour wine on the nose. Initially sweet, turning faintly tart and acrid, more burnt sugar plus a touch of liquorice.

650ml NL import. - Earthy Wiener Kaffee made palatable by cautious flourishes of liquorice, mineral roast, red fruit peel and savoury herbalistics. - Deep shoesole brown with mocha head. Just enough measured caramalt sweetness in the deep mocha to balance the layers of hop and malt bitters and cold filter coffee dry mouthfeel.

From 16oz bottle pours a black potion with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet chocolate with some caramel notes. Nice creamy mouthfeel with taste of sweet bitter chocolate, roast coffee, and malt. Finish is long and lingering with some slight hops, chocolate, and burnt sugar.

Appearance: Deep brown black. Opaque. Thick head of tan foam. Nose: Deeply roasty. Black coffee bitters. Touch of dark chocolate. Dry. Taste: Deeply roasted malt. Black coffee, dark chocolate. Bittersweet. Dry. Touch of toffee Body: Medium to full. Soft carbonation. Parting thoughts: Very big stout. Classic nose and taste notes. well done.

22 oz bottle purchased and consumed in Oregon. 7% ABV. Pours dark brown, ending up essentially black. Fruit and dark roasted grains in the aroma. Dark roasted grains with some char longer in the mildly bitter aftertaste. Unfortunate sourness. Sweet up front with hints of dark chocolate followed by espresso.

0,66l bottle at a friends place. black colour, medium big and quite stable dark coffee colored head. smells tobacco, roast, spices, earthy, light chocolate. decent smell. medium to full body, soft carbonation. tastes earthy, light vanilla, roast, coffee, bitter chocolate, spices. finishes lightly toasty, with earthy, vanilla and notes of bitter chocolate. lovely beer, did not care so much about the smell, but taste is just lovely

Bottled (thanks MT). Black colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is liquorice, some rye, chocolate and mild roasted notes with some toffee to it as well. Flavour is quite similar, and also has got some slight bitter grassiness to it. Tasty, and quite easy going.

4oz taster @ VCBW 2016-Day 1. Creamy lvl-4 sweetness, full bodied mouthfeel. Luscious milk chocolate flavour, roasty off-dry mids. A touch sour in the background, bittersweet finish. Excellent beer and one the my Top 5s at the Vancouver craft beer fest.
