COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Bottle from trade with CH-303, many thanks. Amber color with thick off-white head. Caramel, red fruits, light hops in aroma. Taste of caramel malt, some roastiness, nuts.

Pours a clear reddish Amber. Aroma of syrupy malt sweetness and a biscuity note. Taste is malt-forward with a healthy honey sweetness. Offset nicely with an earthy hoppy note that allows it to finish dry. A little sweet for the style but great from a drinkability standpoint.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with medium head. Aroma is caramel, and toffee biscuit, and malt. Medium light body. Medium light sweetness. Nuts. Caramel, slight butterscotch. Below average carbonation. Toffee bread notes. Pretty smooth. Enough flavors.

Draft to taster at Cincy beerfest 2017 pour light copper with thin ecru head. Nose sweet malt, apple, toffee. Taste similar to nose, more apple than caramel. Moderate grainy malt late to finish.

Bottle shared with koleminer20. For the book. Aroma is caramel, sweet, butterscotch candy, slight hop, malt, toffee. Appearance is amber, light tan head, clear. Taste is grainy, sweet potato, caramel, metallic, but just grain city. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, bready grain aftertaste. Overall, it’s an Alt alright. But middle of the road for the style.

12 oz bottle shared by ebone1988 for the stupid book. The pour is a darker copper color with a thin ring of cream colored head and a couple spots of lace. The aroma is really interesting. There is a maltiness about it and some fruits, with some caramel and a touch of sweet potato. It’s got just a faint bit of metallic on the back end. The flavor is grainy and wet up front. There is a light sweet potato and a bit of light and metallic malt. There’s almost a watered down molasses in there as well. The mouth feel is light and thinly carbonated with a lingeringly sweet and metallic grainy finish. This isn’t that great at all.

Bottle. Pours copper with a frothy head. Aromas of sweet malt. Flavors are candied malt, a bit of toffee and bread. Exceedingly smooth. Muted hop presence. This is mainly a sweet, smooth, malty offering. Not bad, but not exceptional.

OK cool, altbier. Bottle. Darkish pale beer. Sweet malty hardtack candy aroma. Older sweeter near cloying older lager feel. A little thick, sticky with some co2. Medicinal malty thang. Perhaps some peat in there. Malty malt. Seems a lot more than 5.5%. Not impressed. Not nearly as drinkable as Big Boss Beer Fest Beer, Erie Brewing Heritage Alt
or Schell Schmaltzs Alt.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass. The beer is a dark copper with a beige head of foam. Good head retention. The aroma is nutty and malty. Sweet nutty nuances, a lot like a dry english toffee. Almost musty. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad, but it’s a bit different from what I’ve noticed in other Altbiers.
