The name of this beer style comes from the German word alt meaning old. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Served on tap a reddish gold hue with a light large-bubble head that faded quickly to nothing at all as far as lacing. Aroma was mainly of malts - slightly sweet. Taste was predominately of malts with a slightly nutty hue. Hop bitterness as minimal. Palate was decent. Overall, a decent amber that was nothing out of the ordinary.

OK cool, altbier. Bottle. Darkish pale beer. Sweet malty hardtack candy aroma. Older sweeter near cloying older lager feel. A little thick, sticky with some co2. Medicinal malty thang. Perhaps some peat in there. Malty malt. Seems a lot more than 5.5%. Not impressed. Not nearly as drinkable as Big Boss Beer Fest Beer, Erie Brewing Heritage Alt or Schell Schmaltzs Alt.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass. The beer is a dark copper with a beige head of foam. Good head retention. The aroma is nutty and malty. Sweet nutty nuances, a lot like a dry english toffee. Almost musty. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not bad, but its a bit different from what Ive noticed in other Altbiers.

Creamy mild malty flavor. Almost reminds me of an Octoberfest. Very consistent smooth head that dissipates after a short time. Its a little weak overall, but verry well balanced. Great color too

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a medium head. Aroma is malt forward. Medium mouthfeel with strong maltiness flavor. Finish is dry. A solid Alt style ale I always grab when Im on the west coast.

Draft to pint. Looks solid; a mostly transparent amberish copper with off-white head. Smells and tastes malty with notes of caramel, yeast, and a touch of toast. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium-bodied mouthfeel. Decent, but unmemorable.

short lasting head and low lacing that stick around... true amber.. very nice color. aroma is very clean.. with caramel and bigger toasted malts.. only the slightest spicy hops make themselves known. palate is again... very very clean.. very drinkable... yummy.. biscuity with low citrus/floral hops. lite to medium body and better than adequate carbonation.
