The name of this beer style comes from the German word “alt” meaning “old”. This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

It has a nose of bread and molasses. It goes down easily with a foretaste of carbonation. A well-balanced made taste and a slight bitterness at the end. It was good not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle pours a clear dark copper color with creamy off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is full of caramel and candy. Taste is sweet, with a hint of bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with soft carbonation and a creamy, slightly slick mouthfeel. A good beer for November, but too sweet to be a great one.

Aroma is toasted nuts and a hint of sweet black licorice. The flavour is a great blend of sweet caramel, toasted nuts and earthy hop finish. Just a slight bitter finish but not much and it doesn't linger long. This is one of my favorite fall/winter beers when I want to change it up from the citrusy ipas I enjoy in the spring and summer.

Bill Becker (1808) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 27, 2017
From Sep 2007 Had this on tap 9/15 at Paradise Valley Liquors Poured a clear deep amber with a nice thick head of foam that sharnk to a fine layer and it had some lacing. The smell is light and delicate but there was some caramel malt. The taste is sweetish from the caramel with a bit of citrus, mostly lemon, and it finishes slightly bitter with some graininess. The mouthfeel is medium and the carbo is medium...it's pretty drinkable and somewhat sessionable, considering that it's only 4%abv, but doesn't stand out as very exciting.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2017 Poured on tap at the SEA TAC airport. Medium white head. Notes of wheat but with a somewhat stale finish. A fine experience but wouldn't necessarily seek it out again.

Unde (1152) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 13, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2017 Clear amber colour, nice fluffy head on top dissolves rather quickly. Aroma has caramel malts, barley malts, sweet syrup, bread. Taste has barley malts, caramel sweetness and a bit fry after taste. Medium creamy body and high carbonation.

jbruner (5289) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - SEP 6, 2017
Pours a clear golden brown from the bottle with bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild fruity esters and clean sweet malts. Taste is more to the malty caramel sweetness, but a nice yeasty backbone with just a touch of earthy hop. The epitome of American amber.

kwik-lime (2044) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 20, 2017
Draft at BeerPark in Vegas. Mid-brown pour, quite malty with some nuts and grain but the finish was a bit cloyingly sweet which put me off a bit.

Bacchus66 (951) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 18, 2017
12 oz bottle (at Caverns Inn). Pour is clear amber with a creamy off-white head. Grain, caramel, bread, butterscotch, nuts, lightly hopped. Smooth, mild malt finish. Like the bottle.
