Pours very dark, some redness at the bottom. Light thin white head, not much lacing, good retention. Very strong aroma of hops and grain, well balanced leaning towards the hops. Not overly hoppy but noticeable, finishes with a strong grain note, semi-burnt taste. Bold body, medium carbonation towards the end (tip o tongue), slightly sticky. dwyerpg (6285) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - FEB 23, 2012
A pretty solid beer, it has a nice hop flavor and a very good finish. Not as aggressive as a lot of black IPAs but solid nonetheless. bshotbox (12) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 19, 2012
caramel, bread, chocolate, brown, rocky head, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, creamy, lively, bitter, very good example of a BIPA, will definitely go for another, please bring it back next year mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Nice Cascade IPA, bordering on a hoppy porter in style. The malts are what make this one. Sensual and roasty, providing a great solid base and the ultimate mouthfeel. The hops are a bit more subdued -- I'm getting some bitterness, and some citrus, but overall this is the story malts wrote. A nice sweetness comes into play as well, from origins that are above my pay grade to determine. Recommended!

Poured from the bottle. Aroma was great, citrus hops, and roasted malt. Flavor also reflects the aroma. Wow, one solid black ipa! good lacing, thin tan head.

Bottle. Dark black pour, lasting 1/4 inch head and a nice hoppy and slightly chocolatey aroma. Flavor is nice roasty malt, light peppery hops and a little more chocolate on the aftertaste. Nice representation of the style and very well priced. bpreo (2881) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - MAR 28, 2012
Wow, this is a tasty, obvious hybrid beer that combines the malt of a Porter with the hops of an IPA. This beer is amazing. Alaskan Brew Co. gets "mad props". Yo. drpimento (3714) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - APR 23, 2012
Very good beer. Served at a good temperature with a nice sized, light tan, foamy, frothy head that settled slowly and loads of lace. Color is a very dark, clear mahoganey. Aroma is malt, roast, hop. Flavor is surpisingly mild yet fairly good balance and similar to nose with the usual hop, malt, tart characteristics standing out - in context with the body, which is full and has slight high points from the acid/bitter rounded peaks. Finish is like flavor, of average length and is easy drinking. KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Tap at Mellow Mushroom, Spring, TX. Pours a rich black with raven highlights and a clinging latticework of off-white around the glass. Aroma is nutty pine roasted with chocolate wood and light spruce. Flavor is sprucy roasted nuts on a bed of pine sap slopped on a sweet biscuit. Average mouthfeel. Definite repeat. Love the pine and spruce notes. AWISLguy (3234) - Wisconsin, USA - JAN 13, 2012
Bottle from Woodmans. Pours very dark brown with faint reddish tints, and a foamy chocolate milk head leaving great lacing. Aroma has grassy hops and chocolate. Very nice! Taste brings chocolate nibs, pine, some citrusy flavor and a bit of caramel malt back. Finishes sweetly chocolatey with a twist of grapefruit. A bit short. Really nice balance and flavors. Not too thick or strong, or it would be a terrific porter. Impressive.
