Much of the history of Hopothermia is lost to the mists of time. We know that the windswept lone brewer dreamt of a Double IPA so bold and packed full of hop flavor that it could keep the wild wolves from the door of his remote cabin. We know he was able to converse with the creatures of the woodsexcept for the bears who slept through the cold winter, and the mink, who were just really super rude. And we know he skillfully crafted a beer that became the stuff of legend.

There are strange brews made where glaciers cascade
By the brewers who know no bounds.
For they stuff in the hops til the temperature drops
And then call for a few more rounds.
In Alaska, it seems, every brewer dreams
of a bold Double IPA.
Hopothermias the beer, in the Last Frontier
That will keep the wild wolves at bay.

Skunky aroma! Deep copper color with a white disappearing head. Initial flavor is a rush of sweetness. It seems to me they used sugar to try to balance the bland hop flavor. It balances but doesnt taste too great.

Bottle. Poured clear orange copper color with an average to large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate complex hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good beer that met my expectations.

Draft at Uber, Seattle. Clear, copper-brown. White heavy cream. Mild deep hop, syrupy sip, dense hop, some earthiness. Not my favorite hop palate. Rich, eh.

Deep orange pour. Pillowy head. Earthy citrus on the nose. Big fruit and red licorice in the flavor - strange (somehow really good) layer before/over the citrus hops. Fades to dry orange pith. Deep, flavorful, strange. I like....?

Bomber. Pours clear amber. Aroma is caramel and bready malts, light toast, floral notes, and some tropical fruit. Flavor is very well balanced with nice fruity hop character and a solid malt profile that dries things out and adds a touch of caramel sweetness; smooth, subtle hop notes carry through the finish. Medium body.

Poured from the bomber into a snifter. Dark amber with a cream colored head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with some light breadiness, and mostly resinous hop notes. Flavor is similar with some bready malt character up front, some mild sweetness, and a lot of resinous hops. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel and a long finish. Pretty well balanced and very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours clear amber. Large off white head. Big hoppy aroma of pine and fruit. Flavor of pine and caramel. Decently balanced. Strong lacing. Decent beer. I bet it would be better on tap.

Bottle while delayed at DTW post Moorpylz wedding. Translucent amber pour. Aroma is some pine hops, with some other more fruity flavors mixed in. Taste is more simply pine hops with big malt to balance. Not bad DIPA but wouldn't get again.
